Shattered Idols
''Shattered Idols'' is a 1922 American drama film directed by Edward Sloman and written by William V. Mong. It is based on the 1912 novel ''The Daughter of Brahma'' by I. A. R. Wylie. The film stars Marguerite De La Motte, William V. Mong, James W. Morrison, Frankie Lee, Ethel Grey Terry, and Alfred Allen. The film was released on February 6, 1922, by Associated First National Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine, Jean Hurst (Terry), a British army officer's wife in India, on the eve of the birth of her child, finds her husband dead, murdered on their doorstep. The child is born a cripple, and is a weakling and coward. Grown to manhood, because of his mother's hatred, David (Morrison) denounces the association of white people in the colony and marries Sarasvati (De La Motte), the goddess of a tribe that plans to overthrow their English rulers. Edward Sloman
Edward Sloman (19 July 1886, London - 29 September 1972, Woodland Hills, California) was an English silent film director, actor, screenwriter and radio broadcaster. He directed over 100 films and starred in over 30 films as an actor between 1913 and 1938. Post-cinema work After directing over 100 films and starring in over 30, Sloman made his last film in 1938 and in 1939 left the film industry to enter radio broadcasting as a writer, producer and director. Unfortunately the majority of Sloman's works have been lost. However, his 1927 Universal silent ''Alias the Deacon'' starring Jean Hersholt is held by the Library of Congress. He died in Woodland Hills, California in 1972 aged 86. Josephine Crowell
Josephine Boneparte Crowell (January 11, 1859 – July 27, 1932) was a Canadian film actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 90 films between 1912 and 1929. Biography Crowell was born in Nova Scotia. Crowell debuted in the theater in 1879, and she appeared on Broadway as Mrs. Pitcher in ''Captain Mollhy'' (1902). She began her film acting career in the 1912 film ''The School Teacher and the Waif''. By 1919, she had appeared in 50 films, many of which were film shorts. Her notable film appearances during this period were in the early films of D.W. Griffith, including her portrayals of Mrs. Cameron in the controversial 1915 historical drama ''The Birth of a Nation'' and Catherine de' Medici in the 1916 historical epic ''Intolerance''. George Periolat
George Periolat (February 5, 1874 – February 20, 1940) was an American actor. Biography Born in Chicago, Illinois, George Periolat began his career as a Broadway actor. Making his film debut with the Essanay Studios in Chicago, he moved to Hollywood in 1911 and starred in over 170 films throughout his career. He was a very versatile actor, often playing multiple roles in a single production, as when he played two leading characters, the count and the crook, in the 1916 production of '' The Counterfeit Earl''. The story of Norma Desmond, though fictitious, is not far removed from the plight of many silent film stars, and the advent of the sound film brought about a swift end to Periolat's career. He made his last appearance in 1932's ''What Price Hollywood?''. On February 20, 1940, he committed suicide by ingesting arsenic in his Hollywood mansion.
