Shatsky Lakes ( uk, Шацькі озера; ''Shatski Ozera'') means "Lakes of Shatsk" in Ukrainian. It is a group of fresh water lakes located in northern Ukraine near the borders with Belarus and Poland, in the basin of the Bug river. The Shatsky Lakes are known for their clean, pure waters and views of the surrounding forests. The largest and most famous lake is Svitiaz. Shatsk, Ukraine
Shatsk (, , yi, שאצק ''Shatsk'') is an urban-type settlement in Volyn Oblast, Kovel Raion, Ukraine, to the north-west of Kovel. Population: The village is situated in a picturesque area in the western part of Volyn Woodlands, surrounded by lakes, which are sometimes called Shatsky (Velyke Chorne, Svitiaz, Pulemetske, Luka, Liutsymer, Somynets, Karasynets, Ozertse). In 2017, a postage stamp featuring the coat of arms of Shatsk was released by Ukrposhta. History In Ukrainian sources, the town located in this area is mentioned twice, in 1255 and in 1287. The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of Ramsar sites (wetlands).
