Sharon Graham
Sharon M. Graham (born 1968) is a British trade unionist who has been the general secretary of Unite the union, Unite since 26 August 2021. She is the first woman to hold the position. She previously served as the union's executive officer and as head of its organising and leverage department. Early life Sharon Graham was born in Hammersmith in 1968. She is one of four children to a father from Newcastle upon Tyne and a mother from Abbeyfeale, County Limerick. She went to the Sacred Heart High School, Hammersmith, Sacred Heart High School in Hammersmith. She left school and began work as a silver service waitress at 16, and led her first walkout at 17 in defence of the rights of Casual Work, casual workers. The strike was successful and won her colleagues equal pay. Graham initially intended to go into journalism and worked for an estate agent. Unite the Union, commonly known as Unite, is a British and Irish trade union which was formed on 1 May 2007 by the merger of Amicus and the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU). Unite is the second largest trade union in the UK (after Unison), with over 1.2 million members across construction, manufacturing, transport, logistics, and other sectors. Socialist Workers Party (UK)
The Socialist Workers Party (SWP) is a far-left political party in the United Kingdom. Founded as the Socialist Review Group by supporters of Tony Cliff in 1950, it became the International Socialists in 1962 and the SWP in 1977. The party considers itself to be Trotskyist. Cliff and his followers criticised the Soviet Union and its satellites, calling them state capitalist rather than socialist countries. The SWP has founded several fronts through which they have sought to coordinate and influence leftist action, such as the Anti-Nazi League in the late 1970s. It also formed an alliance with George Galloway and Respect, the dissolution of which in 2007 caused an internal crisis in the SWP. The ''i'' is a British national morning paper published in London by Daily Mail and General Trust and distributed across the United Kingdom. Coventry City Council is the local government body responsible for the governance of the City of Coventry in England, which has been a metropolitan district since 1974. The city is divided up into 18 Wards each with three councillors. Coventry has usually been controlled by the Labour Party over the past few decades, and at times they appeared to be in safe control. However, the Conservatives held control for a short time in the 1970s, and they also held control from July 2004 until 2010. For a time they held control on the casting vote of the Lord Mayor, but they won clear control at the local elections of 4 May 2006. Keir Starmer
Sir Keir Rodney Starmer (; born 2 September 1962) is a British politician and barrister who has served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party since 2020. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015. He was previously Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013. Ideologically, Starmer has been described as being on the soft left within the Labour Party.
