Sharkey-Issaquena Academy is a Private school, private, nonsectarian, school in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. It was founded as a segregation academy in 1970. History In 1970, one year after the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Supreme Court decided ''Alexander v. Holmes County Board of Education'', which ordered desegregation of schools, white parents opposed to integration doubled the enrollment of the SIA (from 150 to 300). In 1982, Issaquena County public schools superintendent Dunbar Lee said he sent his children to Sharkey-Issaquena Academy because public school standards were not "what they were like before integration." Lee added that there were "so many more slow learners in public schools" In 1989, the school forfeited a football game to Heritage Academy (Mississippi), Heritage Academy because the other school had a black player. South Delta High School is a public high school in Rolling Fork, Mississippi (United States). The school serves students in grades nine through twelve. South Delta High is part of the South Delta School District; the district serves all of Sharkey County, including the towns of Rolling Fork, Anguilla, and Cary, as well as the unincorporated areas of Delta City, Nitta Yuma, and Panther Burn. Heritage Academy is a private school in Columbus, Mississippi. It was founded in 1964 as a segregation academy. History Heritage was founded in 1964 as a segregation academy. In 1988, Heritage enrolled its first Black students, Jabari and Jasáda Dunbar. 1989 football forfeitures In 1989, Heritage Academy was the first school in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) North Conference to have a black player on its football team. The school received national media attention when two other schools offered to forfeit games rather than play against a racially integrated opponent.
