Billy Shantz
Wilmer Ebert Shantz (July 31, 1927 – December 13, 1993) was an American professional baseball catcher and manager. He appeared in 131 Major League Baseball (MLB) games, 130 of them for the 1954–55 Philadelphia/Kansas City Athletics and one for the 1960 New York Yankees. His older brother, Bobby, a left-handed pitcher, played in the Majors for 16 seasons (1949–64) and was the Most Valuable Player in the American League in . In contrast to his diminutive brother Bobby, who stood tall, Billy Shantz was listed as tall and weighed . He batted and threw right-handed. Bobby Shantz
Robert Clayton Shantz (born September 26, 1925) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as a left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) from through , and won the 1952 American League Most Valuable Player Award as a member of the Philadelphia Athletics. A three-time All-Star, Shantz won eight consecutive Gold Glove Awards and won a World Series championship with the 1958 New York Yankees. He also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Colt .45s, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Shantz began his career as a starting pitcher, but about halfway through he converted to a competent relief pitcher. In 1951, he added the knuckleball to his repertoire. Jacob Yost Shantz (2May 182228October 1909) was a Mennonite farmer, businessman, and industrialist from Ontario, Canada. He played a significant role in the urban development of Berlin, Ontario ( which is now the city of Kitchener), where he held a succession of civic roles over a period of almost three decades, culminating in a term as mayor in 1882. Over the span of his life, Berlin was transformed from a rural agricultural settlement known as Ebytown into a bustling manufacturing centre; this was a change mirrored by Shantz, who began his adult life as a farmer and sawmiller, and ended it as a prominent local industrialist. Late in his life, he travelled to the newly-colonized province of Manitoba, and subsequently helped tens of thousands of Russian Mennonites to immigrate there from the Russian Empire. Jeffrey Dale Shantz (born October 10, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He played predominantly in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames and the Colorado Avalanche. Playing career Shantz was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round, 36th overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. On October 1, 2002, prior to the 2002–03 season, Shantz was traded by the Flames, along with Derek Morris and Dean McAmmond, to the Colorado Avalanche for Chris Drury and Stephane Yelle. Lorne Hugh Shantz (February 4, 1920 – October 2, 1999) was a politician in British Columbia, Canada. He represented North Okanagan in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1952 to 1963 as a Social Credit member. He was born in Alsask, Saskatchewan, the son of Jacob Y. Sarah Shantz-Smiley (born 24 August 1982) is a Canadian-born Icelandic ice hockey player and coach. She has been a member of the Iceland women's national team since 2011, the same year she was named the Icelandic Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Year. Playing career Having played for the University of Windsor in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (now U Sports), Shantz-Smiley graduated in 2005.
