Shanthi Kumar
Berty Seneviratne (16 September 1916 – 22 February 1967 බර්ටි සෙනෙවිරත්න), popularly known by stage name Shanthi Kumar was an actor, filmmaker and choreographer in Sri Lankan cinema. Considered one of the three pioneer film directors in Sinhala cinema, he made the first talkie film of Sri Lankan film history. He has gone down in history as a dancer who amazed India and was honored by an Indian governor. Personal life Berty Seneviratne alias Shanthi Kumar Seneviratne was born on September 16, 1916 at the Lihinigiri Palace in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. His mother was from Subasinghe family of Sandalankawa. He studied as Trinity College, Kandy, and mastered wrestling, rugby and football during school period. Berty's younger brother Richard Herbert alias Herbie Seneviratne was also a popular actor in early Sinhala cinema. He died on 22 February 1967 at the age of 50. Kurunegala
Kurunegala ( si, කුරුණෑගල, ta, குருணாகல்) is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of the North Western Province and the Kurunegala District. Kurunegala was an ancient royal capital for 50 years, from the end of the 13th century to the start of the 14th century. Asokamala is a 1947 Sri Lankan historical film co-directed by Shanthi Kumar and T. R. Goppu and produced by Sir Chittampalam A. Gardiner. It was the second film made in the Sinhalese language and the first by a Sinhalese director. It also was the first film that W. D. Mohammed Gauss
Mohammed Gauss also known as Mohamed Ghouse ( Sinhala: මොහොමඩ් ගවුස්), was a Sri Lankan film music composer. His compositions for Sinhala cinema in the 1950s are credited by music critics as having been influential in developing a Sri Lankan style of film composition distinct from that of Indian films. Career He came to Sri Lanka to provide music for Nurthi dramas under the invitation of popular Sri Lankan dramatist John de Silva. Gauss Master worked for the Columbia Records Company. Although Gauss was keen to compose Sinhala songs using lyrics to Indian songs, he soon turned to composing solo songs. He did that experiment with the songs he composed for the film ''Ashokamala''.
