Shanta Gokhale
Shanta Gokhale (born 14 August 1939) is an Indian writer, translator, journalist and theatre critic. She is best known for her works ''Rita Welinkar'' and ''Tya Varshi''. Early life and education Born in Dahanu in Palghar district of Maharashtra, Gokhale's family moved to Shivaji Park neighbourhood in Mumbai in 1941 when her father, GG Gokahle, joined a newspaper, ''Searchlight''. Her father later joined the Bennett and Coleman Group. She did her schooling from Bombay Scottish School, Mahim. At the age of 15 she left for England where she did her B. A. (Hons) in English literature at Bristol University. Returning to India, at the age of 21, she did her M. A. (Hons) degree in English literature from University of Mumbai. ''Ardh Satya'' () is a 1983 film directed by Govind Nihalani, his second offering after another angst-ridden movie '' Aakrosh'' (1980). The screenplay of both movies was by Vijay Tendulkar, the noted Marathi playwright; this one was based on the short story, 'Surya', by S. D. Panvalkar, and featured dialogues by Vasant Dev. In this acclaimed cop-drama, the protagonist, played by Om Puri, is a policeman struggling with the evils around him and with his own frailties. The film also stars Amrish Puri, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar, and features a theme poem by the Marathi writer Dilip Chitre. Satyadev Dubey
Satyadev Dubey (13 July 1936 – 25 December 2011) was an Indian theatre director, actor, playwright, screenwriter & film director. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1971. He won the 1978 National Film Award for Best Screenplay for Shyam Benegal's ''Bhumika'' and 1980 Filmfare Best Dialogue Award for '' Junoon''. ''The Independent'' was an Allahabad based newspaper begun by Motilal Nehru in 1919. The paper closed down under British repression two years later. ''The Independent'' was started on February 5, 1919 with the primary aim of countering the moderate political line adopted by the then leading Allahabad daily ''The Leader''. Motilal Nehru was assisted in the paper's establishment by B G Horniman and Syed Hussain who became the ''Independent''s editor.
