Shang Johnson
Daniel Spencil Johnson (June 21, 1898 – death unknown), nicknamed "Shang", was an American Negro league pitcher between 1917 and 1925. A native of Alabama, Johnson attended Morris Brown College. He made his Negro leagues debut in 1917 with the Bacharach Giants and the Hilldale Club. He went on to pitch for the Brooklyn Royal Giants and Pennsylvania Red Caps of New York, and finished his career in 1925 with the Lincoln Giants The Lincoln Giants were a Negro league baseball team based in New York City from 1911 through 1930. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
