Shane Maher
Shane Maher (born 22 April 1981 in Gortmore, County Tipperary) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Burgess and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team. He is the older brother of Donagh Maher, who also plays for Tipperary. Playing career Club Maher plays his club hurling with his local Burgess club and has enjoyed some success. He was a key member of the team when the club won the intermediate county title in 2005. Inter-county Shane is a talented hurler and footballer and has lined out with Tipperary at Minor Football (1998 and 1999), Under 21 Football (2000, 2001 and 2002 as captain), Under 21 Hurling (2002), Junior Football (2001), Intermediate Hurling (2002, 2003 and 2004), and Senior Football (2003). National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. The 2010 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final was the 113th All-Ireland Final and the culmination of the 2010 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, an inter-county hurling tournament for the top teams in Ireland. The match was held at Croke Park, Dublin, on 5 September 2010 and was a repeat of the 2009 final with Kilkenny taking on Tipperary. Kilkenny were attempting to win a fifth All-Ireland title in-a-row, a feat never achieved in either hurling or Gaelic football. This has been referred to as the "Drive for Five". The game was watched by more than 80,000 in the stadium as well as a global audience on TV, radio, etc. The Final attracted the highest ever Irish viewership for an All Ireland Hurling Final peaking at 1.236 million viewers in the final minutes of the match, with an average audience of over one million people during the game which was shown live on RTÉ2. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887.
