''Shamokin!!!'' is the second album put out by Mostly Other People Do the Killing. The quartet is led by bassist Moppa Elliot, and is the follow up to a self-titled record ''Mostly Other People Do the Killing'' from 2005 that joined all the personnel forming the band. The album is mostly original songs with "Lover" and "A Night in Tunisia" the only covers. Kevin Shea (musician)
Kevin Shea is an American jazz drummer in improvisation and experimental music. He attended Berklee College of Music. Career Shea has played in the avant-garde band Storm & Stress with whom he recorded ''Storm and Stress'' (produced by Steve Albini) in 1997 and ''Under Thunder & Fluorescent Lights'' (produced by Jim O'Rourke) in 2000. He has also played in the band Coptic Light. ''The Village Voice'' named him best drummer of 2012. He has played with Micah Gaugh, Ian Williams, Daniel Carter, Mary Halvorson, Peter Evans, Mike Pride, and Matt Mottel. Mostly Other People Do The Killing
Mostly Other People Do the Killing is a jazz quartet based in New York City including trumpeter Peter Evans, saxophonist Jon Irabagon, bassist Matthew "Moppa" Elliott, and drummer Kevin Shea. The group formed in 2003 and has released several albums on Elliott's Hot Cup label. History Bandleader Moppa Elliott met Peter Evans while both were students at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Upon relocating to New York City, Elliott met Jon Irabagon through guitarist Jon Lundbom at the Manhattan School of Music and Kevin Shea through Mary Halvorson. MOPDtK performs compositions by Elliott, all of which are arbitrarily named after towns in his native Pennsylvania. Performances often take the form of large suites in which the group transitions between original pieces and jazz standards, often employing theatrics and elements of rock, pop, and classical music. Jon Irabagon is a Filipino-American saxophonist, composer, and founder of Irabbagast Records. Winner of the 2008 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and one of '' Time Outs "25 essential New York City jazz icons", Irabagon is known for the breadth of his work on a jazz continuum ranging "from postbop to free improvisation, avant country to doom metal". Forty Fort was a stronghold built by settlers from Connecticut, on the Susquehanna River in what is now Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Before the American Revolutionary War, both Connecticut and Pennsylvania claimed this territory, as Connecticut had laid claim to a wide swath of land to its west based on its colonial charter. These competing claims triggered the Pennamite-Yankee Wars but were resolved after the Revolutionary War when the federal government awarded the contested territory to Pennsylvania. Peter Evans is a improvising trumpeter who specializes in free improvisation and avant-garde music. Career Evans graduated from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He also studied at the New England Conservatory of Music's School of Preparatory Education. He has led the Peter Evans Quintet with Ron Stabinsky, Sam Pluta, Tom Blancarte, and Jim Black, the Zebulon trio with John Hebert and Kassa Overall, and was a member of the band Mostly Other People Do the Killing.
