Edward Shames
Colonel Edward David Shames (June 13, 1922 – December 3, 2021) was a United States Army enlisted man and officer who later served in the U.S. Army Reserve. During World War II, he was assigned to the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Shames was Jewish and reported being deeply affected by his personal viewing of Nazi Germany's concentration camps. Shames was the last surviving officer and, following the death of Roderick G. Strohl in December 2019, oldest surviving member of the regiment's Easy Company, 2nd Battalion. He was survived only by Private First Class Bradford C. Freeman. Early life Shames was born in Norfolk, Virginia, in June 1922, to David and Sadie (Winer) Shames. Laurence Shames is an American writer. Writing career Laurence Shames is best known for his series of comic mysteries, all set in Key West, Florida. One of his most popular books, however, ''Bad Twin'', was written under the pseudonym Gary Troup, in a cross promotion between publisher Hyperion Books (now Hachette Books) and ABC, the network which produced the TV series, '' Lost''. In ''Lost'', Troup was a fictional character who was presumed dead in the airline crash that was the basis for the TV series, and he left a manuscript behind, leading viewers of the series to buy the book to find clues to the mysteries of ''Lost''. Stephen Shames
Stephen Shames (born 1947, in Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American photojournalist who for over 50 years has used his photography to raise awareness of social issues, with a particular focus on child poverty, solutions to child poverty, and race. He testified about child poverty to the United States Senate in 1986. Shames was named a Purpose Prize Fellow in 2010 by Encore.org for his work helping AIDS orphans and former child soldiers in Africa.
