Shamar Joseph
Shamar Joseph (born 31 August 1999) is a Guyanese cricketer who plays for Guyana national cricket team, Guyana in first-class cricket and for the West Indies in international cricket. He is a right-arm fast bowler. He made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team, West Indies in January 2024 against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Prior to his professional cricket career, he worked as a security guard. Biography Joseph is from Baracara, a small community in East Berbice-Corentyne, Guyana, about 225 km up the Canje River and two days by boat from the port city of New Amsterdam, Guyana, New Amsterdam. He grew up with little to no access to internet facilities or telephone connections. Joseph grew up in a family of three sisters and five brothers. He idolised Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, opening bowlers for the West Indies cricket team, watching their highlights and imitating them in his tape ball games around the village. Baracara
Baracara village was founded by African diaspora in the Americas, people of African descent in the East Berbice-Corentyne Region of Guyana, located on the Canje River. The community has also been called New Ground Village or Wel te Vreeden. Baracara is 20 miles west of Corriverton and just north of the Torani Canal's connection to the Canje River. Overview Baracara is the only Maroons, maroon village in Guyana. A group of escaped slaves settled in Baracara in the early 19th century, and occupied both the east and west banks of the river. The demographics are mostly Afro-Guyanese people, Afro-Guyanese. The economy of the village is based on subsistence farming and logging. The village has a health centre, and a primary school, but no secondary school. Baracara can be only accessed by boat from the river. As of 2015, the village has no local government.
