Shallow Water (album)
''Shallow Water'' is the debut album by Servant, and also served to launch the new label Tunesmith Records in 1979. The gatefold jacket opened to reveal a photo of the cover scene (people, furniture and all) being washed away in the tide. The album was originally issued in Canada on red vinyl, but later pressings were in standard black. In 2006, ''Shallow Water'' was reissued on CD by Retroactive Records. Servant (band)
Servant was a Christian rock group that grew out of the counter-culture Jesus Movement of the sixties and seventies. The band was founded in Victoria, British Columbia in 1976 by Jim Palosaari and performed to audiences throughout North America, Europe and Australia for over 12 years. Originally named "Higher Ground", the group later changed their name to Servant. The lyrics of their songs were known for challenging the Christian Church to turn back to social justice and caring for the poor. A Servant rock concert was like a festival event. The band was known to incorporate comedy and short skits in their sets on stage. Servant was also the first Christian rock group to use laser lights, flame tubes, fireworks, fog machines, in addition to an extensive light show and quadraphonic sound (a precursor to surround-sound). Rockin' Revival
''Rockin' Revival'' is the second album by Servant, released by Tunesmith Records in 1982, and was also the first album with Matt Spransy in the lineup. The original cover featured a picture of a revival meeting using a fisheye lens, but was later replaced by a number of concert photographs. The songs "Ad Man" and the high-energy "I'm Gonna Live" both quickly became concert staples. In 2011, ''Rockin' Revival'' was added to the "CCM's 500 Best Albums of All Time" blog at No. 176. Compact Disc
The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. In August 1982, the first compact disc was manufactured. It was then released in October 1982 in Japan and branded as ''Compact Disc Digital Audio, Digital Audio Compact Disc''. The format was later adapted (as CD-ROM) for general-purpose data storage. Retroactive Records
Retroactive Records is an independent record label in Keokuk, Iowa. The label was founded in 2002 by Matt Hunt, who had previously operated a small label called Magdalene Records. Originally intended to reissue classic Christian metal, the label has since grown to sign new artists, release original albums by those artists,"Diary of a Mattman", Heavens Metal, Feb/Mar 2005, Issue #73, p14,15 & 20 and release other genres of music. Montrose (band)
Montrose was an American hard rock band formed in 1973 and named after guitarist and founder Ronnie Montrose. The band's original lineup featured lead vocalist and frontman Sammy Hagar, who later found greater success as a solo artist and as the lead singer of Van Halen. Rounding out the original foursome were bassist Bill Church and drummer Denny Carmassi. The band experienced moderate success before disbanding in early 1977. In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Originally, it referred to a version of a song released around the same time as the original in order to compete with it. Now, it refers to any subsequent version performed after the original. Daniel Earl Hartman (December 8, 1950 – March 22, 1994) was an American rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Among songs he wrote and recorded were " Free Ride" as a member of the Edgar Winter Group, and the solo hits "Relight My Fire", "Instant Replay", "I Can Dream About You", "We Are the Young" and " Second Nature". "I Can Dream About You", his most successful song, reached No. 6 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1984 and No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart in 1985. The James Brown song " Living in America", which Hartman co-wrote and produced, reached No. 4 on March 1, 1986. Sammy Hagar
Samuel Roy Hagar (born October 13, 1947), also known as the Red Rocker, is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s with the hard rock band Montrose and subsequently launched a successful solo career, scoring a hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55". He enjoyed commercial success when he replaced David Lee Roth as the second lead vocalist of Van Halen in 1985, but left in 1996. He returned to the band from 2003 to 2005. Robert Jens Rock (born April 19, 1954) is a Canadian record producer, sound engineer and musician, best known for producing rock bands and music artists such as Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, The Tragically Hip, the Cult, 311, Our Lady Peace, Bryan Adams, the Offspring, Michael Bublé, Black Veil Brides, David Lee Roth, and Ron Sexsmith. Payolas and Rock and Hyde Rock began his music career in Langford, British Columbia (a suburb of Victoria), as a guitarist playing with friends William Alexander and Paul Hyde in the former's household basement.
