Shallow Water is a census-designated place (CDP) in Scott County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 89. History Its post office was established January 13, 1913, and closed October 31, 1957. Shallow Water is the northern terminus of the Garden City Western Railway. Demographics Education Shallow Water is a part of USD 466 Scott County. Shallow Water schools were closed through school unification. The Shallow Water High School mascot was Shallow Water Tigers. The Shallow Water Tigers won the Kansas State High School Boys class B Cross Country championship in 1960 and 1961. Heriberto Hermes (25 May 1933 – 3 January 2018) was an American-born Roman Catholic bishop. Hermes was ordained a priest in 1960 and consecrated a bishop in 1990. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. The Garden City Western Railway is a railroad operating in the U.S. state of Kansas. GCW was organized in 1916, first owned by The Garden City Sugar and Land Company and then owned by the Garden City Coop, Inc. Area Code 620
Area code 620 covers telephone exchanges in most of southern Kansas. It was created as the result of a split from 316 on February 3, 2001. The area code stretches across the southern half of the state, from the Colorado border in the west to the Missouri border in the east. It completely surrounds 316, which now only serves Wichita and its inner suburbs, making it one of the six pairs of "doughnut area codes" in the numbering plan. Permissive dialing of 316 across southern Kansas continued until November 3, 2001.
