Shakopee High School is a four-year public high school as of fall 2018 located in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. The school district serves nearly 8,380 students in Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake, and the Jackson, Louisville, and Sand Creek Townships. The district is located in one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Twin Cities. The high school received a major expansion and was reopened after a summer of construction in the fall of 2018. History Shakopee High School was located at 200 10th Avenue East until the fall of 2007 when the current high school opened at 100 17th Avenue West. School Facilities The current Shakopee High School was opened in 2007, and the building that previously served as the high school is now Shakopee West Middle School. Shakopee ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Minnesota, United States. It is located southwest of Minneapolis. Sited on the south bank bend of the Minnesota River, Shakopee and nearby suburbs comprise the southwest portion of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the sixteenth-largest metropolitan area in the United States, with 3.7 million people. The population was 43,698 at the 2020 census. The river bank's Shakopee Historic District contains burial mounds built by prehistoric cultures. Prior Lake is an exurban city southwest of Minneapolis seated next to Savage and Shakopee in Scott County in the state of Minnesota. Jackson Township is a township in Scott County, Minnesota, United States. Organized in 1858, Jackson Township's population was 1,361 at the 2000 census. While the origin of its name is not recorded, it is most likely named after President Andrew Jackson. History Sand Creek Township was originally called Douglas Township, and under the latter name was organized in 1858. Several months later it was renamed St. Mary Township. The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) is a voluntary, non-profit association for the support and governance of interscholastic activities at high schools in Minnesota, United States. Jamal Abu-Shamala ( ar, جمال أبو شمالة; born July 25, 1987) is a Palestinian-American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Abu-Shamala played in the NBA Development League for the Sioux Falls Skyforce during the 2010–11 season. Abu-Shamala first represented the Jordanian national team and began to play internationally in 2008. He joined the Palestine national team in 2011 and has since represented them internationally. Charlie Vig
Charlie Vig is the former Chairman of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota. Vig served as the Vice Chairman from January 2012 until August 2012. He then served as Chairman from August 2012 to January 2020. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is the most influential Native American tribe in Minnesota and the single-largest benefactor for Indian Country nationally. Vig was the youngest of his family's nine children. His grandmother, Minnie Otherday, was a descendant of John Otherday, who saved many settlers and U.S. government employees during the Dakota War of 1862. Vig was raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He moved to the region around Prior Lake in 1969 when his parents became some of the founders of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. His father died from cancer when he was nine years old.
