Shakespeare Behind Bars
Shakespeare Behind Bars is an organization offering theatrical encounters with personal and social issues to incarcerated and post-incarcerated adults and juveniles. It intends to encourage the development of life skills that will ensure their successful reintegration into society. The organization's vision statement is that "Shakespeare Behind Bars was founded on the belief that all human beings are born inherently good. Although some convicted criminals have committed heinous crimes against other human beings, the inherent goodness still lives deep within them and can be called forth by immersing participants in the safety of a circle-of-trust and the creative process." La Grange, Kentucky
La Grange is a home rule-class city in Oldham County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 8,082 at the time of the 2010 U.S. census. It is the seat of its county. An unusual feature of La Grange is the CSX Transportation street-running mainline track on Main Street. History La Grange was founded in 1827 when the Oldham County seat was relocated from Westport at the suggestion of Major William Berry Taylor. The new town was named for Château de la Grange-Bléneau, the French country estate of Gilbert du Motier, the American Revolutionary hero better known as the Marquis de Lafayette, who had visited the area in 1824. Luther Luckett Correctional Complex
The Luther Luckett Correctional Complex is a Medium/MINIMUM-security state prison located in Oldham County, near La Grange, Kentucky, about 30 miles northeast of Louisville. It opened in 1981 and had a prison population 1,204 as of 2018. The Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center, which is operated by the Kentucky Health and Family Services Cabinet and is officially a separate facility, is located within the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex and shares several facilities with its host prison. Due to extreme staffing shortages over the 2015–16 fiscal year, the facility now operates on two 12-hour shifts, five days a week. This has been embraced by some as substantial extra income, and heavily criticized by others due to being away from their families so often, as well as being a major source of mental and physical stress. ''Pericles, Prince of Tyre'' is a Jacobean play written at least in part by William Shakespeare and included in modern editions of his collected works despite questions over its authorship, as it was not included in the First Folio. It was published in 1609 as a quarto, was not included in Shakespeare's collections of works until the third folio, and the main inspiration for the play was Gower's ''Confessio Amantis''.
