Shahidul Islam (academic)
Shahidul Islam is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and the former Member of Parliament of Kushtia-2 from 1996 to 2006 for two terms. He was known for filing cases and attacking journalists in Kushtia District. Career In 1981/6, Islam was removed from Bheramara College as lecturer after an investigation by the Deputy Commissioner found his High School Certificate to be forged. In the 1980s, he joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. In 1991, he tried to get the Bangladesh Nationalist Party nomination for Kushtia-2 but failed. He got his wife, Selina Shahid, elected to parliament from a Bangladesh Nationalist Party women's reserved seat. Islam was elected to parliament from Kushtia-2 as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the February 1996 Bangladeshi general election which was boycotted by all other political parties. ATN Bangla ( bn, এটিএন বাংলা), 'ATN' being the acronym of the unused Asian Television Network, is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable television channel owned by Multimedia Production Company. It is based in the Kawran Bazar neighborhood of Dhaka. ATN Bangla is the first privately owned television channel and the first to broadcast on satellite in Bangladesh. Jatiya Press Club is the professional club for journalists of Bangladesh located in the capital Dhaka. The current president is Farida Yasmin and the General Secretary is Elias Khan. History The Jatiya Press Club was founded in 1954 as the East Pakistan Press Club. It was formed to be run by an elected committee guided by its rules and regulations. The Government of East Pakistan rented out a building at 18 Topkhana Road at a monthly rent of Tk 100 to be used as the press club headquarters. The building before 1947 was a residential house of Dhaka University and was once residence to physicist Satyendra Nath Bose. The first life member of the club was N. M. Channel One ( bn, চ্যানেল ওয়ান) was a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable pay television channel. It applied for a broadcasting license on 5 January 2005, which the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission granted them on 31 January of that year. It started broadcasting on 24 January 2006 from its studio in Uday Tower, Gulshan, Dhaka. It was owned by One Entertainment Limited, a sister concern of One Group. Channel One was an infotainment channel. It ceased broadcasting on 27 April 2010.
