Shahid Mahmood Baig () is a Pakistani scientist and geneticist. Currently working as an advisor at COMSTECH. Education and Academic Career Shahid Mahmood Baig was born in Pakistan. He earned his F.Sc. (Biology) in 1978, and B.Sc. (Biology) in 1981 from Gordon College Rawalpindi, M.Sc. (Biology) in 1984, MPhil ( Physiology of Reproduction) in 1986, and PhD (Human Molecular Genetics) in 1997 from Quaid-I-Azam University Islamabad (PhD research at Bosphorus University, Istanbul, Turkey), first postdoc (Molecular Biology and Genetics) from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2000, and second postdoc ( Oncogenomics) from Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, in 2012. In 2023, Baig was elected a Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences. Hilal-i-Imtiaz
The ''Hilal-e-Imtiaz'' (; ), also spelled as ''Hilal-i-Imtiaz,'' is the second-highest (in the order of "Imtiaz") civilian award and honour given to both civilians and military officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces by the Government of Pakistan. It recognises individuals who have made an "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavors". It is a civilian award, and not limited to the citizens of Pakistan. The honour is restricted to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in their fields that led to international recognition for the state. It is awarded in the fields of literature, arts, sports, medicine and science for civilians. Muhammad Ali Jinnah (born Mahomedali Jinnahbhai; 25 December 187611 September 1948) was a barrister, politician, and the founder of Pakistan. Jinnah served as the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until the inception of Pakistan on 14 August 1947 and then as Pakistan's first governor-general until his death. Born at Wazir Mansion in Karachi, Jinnah was trained as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn in London, England. Upon his return to India, he enrolled at the Bombay High Court, and took an interest in national politics, which eventually replaced his legal practice. Jinnah rose to prominence in the Indian National Congress in the first two decades of the 20th century.
