Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Firozpur, Punjab, India. The stadium is mainly used for field hockey, and many Indian greats like Major Dhyan Chand, Gurinder Singh, Jograj Singh, Surjit Singh, and Bhagwant Singh have played here. The stadium was previously known as Nehru Park but was renamed after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. History The ground also hosted two Ranji Trophy matches in 1961 and 1967. The ground was the home ground for Northern Punjab cricket team which played cricket from 1926 to 1967. The match against Southern Punjab cricket team in 1967 was the last match of the Northern Punjab cricket team in Ranji Trophy. The stadium was one of 16 venues that were used for the 2011 Kabaddi World Cup. Firozpur, also known as Ferozepur, is a city on the banks of the Sutlej River in Firozpur District, Punjab, India. After the partition of India in 1947, it became a border town on the India–Pakistan border with memorials to soldiers who died fighting for India. Parkash Singh Badal ( pa, ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ; born 8 December 1927) is an Indian politician who was Chief Minister of Punjab state from 1970 to 1971, from 1977 to 1980, from 1997 to 2002, and from 2007 to 2017. He is also the patron of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a Sikh-centered regional political party. He was the president of the party from 1995 to 2008, when he was replaced by his son Sukhbir Singh Badal. Kabaddi is a contact team sport. Played between two teams of seven players, the objective of the game is for a single player on offence, referred to as a "raider", to run into the opposing team's half of the court, touch out as many of their players and return to their own half of the court, all without being tackled by the defenders in 30 seconds.
