Shafiqur Rahman
Shafiqur Rahman ( bn, শফিকুর রহমান) is a Bangladeshi politician, physician and current amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He served as Jamaat's secretary general from October 2016 to November 2019. He was elected the Jamaat-e-Islami Emir on November 12, 2019. He was former acting secretary general of the party. Before his being acting secretary general, he had been ''Ameer'' (leader) of the Sylhet city branch of the party. Primary life Shafiqur Rahman was born on October 31, 1958 at Vatera Union under Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar District. His father's name Abru Mia and mother name is Khatibun. He is the third son his family. Rahman passed the SSC from the local Baramachal High School in 1974 and then passed the HSC from the MC College in Sylhet at 1976. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ( bn, বাংলাদেশ জামায়াতে ইসলামী, Bānglādēsh Jāmāyatē Islāmī, Bangladesh Islamic Assembly), previously known as Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, or Jamaat for short, was the largest Islamist political party in Bangladesh. On 1 August 2013, the Bangladesh Supreme Court cancelled the registration of the Jamaat-e-Islami, ruling that the party is unfit to contest national elections. Its predecessor, the party (Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan), strongly opposed the independence of Bangladesh and break-up of Pakistan. In 1971, paramilitary forces associated with the party collaborated with the Pakistan Army in mass killings of Bengladeshi nationalists and pro-intellectuals. ''The Daily Sangram'', also known as ''Dainik Sangram'' ( bn, দৈনিক সংগ্রাম ''Doinik Shônggram'' "Daily Struggle") is a Pro-Jamaat-e-Islami Bengali daily newspaper published from Dhaka, Bangladesh. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300. The main rival four-party alliance received only 32 seats, with the remaining four going to independent candidates. Sylhet District
Sylhet ( bn, সিলেট), located in north-east Bangladesh, is the divisional capital and one of the four districts in the Sylhet Division. History Sylhet district was established on 3 January 1782, and until 1878 it was part of Bengal Province under Dhaka Division. However, in that year, Sylhet was moved to the newly created Assam Province, and it remained as part of Assam up to 1947 (except during the administrative reorganisation of Bengal Province between 1905 and 1912). The Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College (SOMC) ( bn, সিলেট এম.এ.জি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ) is a government medical school in Bangladesh, established in 1962. It is located in Sylhet.
