Shafi Edu
Chief Shafi Lawal Edu (1911–2002), popularly known as S.L. Edu, was a Nigerian businessman and conservationist from Epe, Lagos State. He founded the Nigerian conservation fund, a non-governmental organization involved in conservation projects, and was a former member of the council of the World Wildlife Fund. Life Shafi Lawal Edu was born on 7 January 1911 in Epe, Lagos to the polygamous family of Lawani Edu; his mother was Raliatu who was the daughter of a Muslim cleric. His education started with attendance at Quranic schools before enrolling in the Government Muslim Primary School in Epe. He finished his education in 1927 and became a teacher at his school. Edu belonged to a royal ancestry, a scion of a Muslim family. His grandfather was Buraimoh Edu, a Muslim ''Mogaji'' who later became the Baale of Epe. Nigerian Conservation Foundation
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation is an environmental non-governmental organization which works to preserve the natural resources and biodiversity of Nigeria. The Foundation was founded in 1980 by Shafi Edu and has worked since then on a number of resource management and conservation projects across Nigeria. Chief Ede Dafinone is the current Chairman of the Foundation and Dr. Muhtari Aminu-Kano is the Director-General. One of the founders was Akintola Williams. The Akintola Williams Arboretum at the Nigerian Conservation Foundation headquarters in Lagos is named in his honor.The Foundation is involved in conservation efforts on a number of fronts. Partial general elections were held in Nigeria in 1943, with only two of the four elected seats available. Background The previous general elections had been held in 1938. However, since the elections, two by-elections had been held; one in 1940 following the death of Olayinka Alakija and one in 1941 after Kofo Abayomi resigned from the Legislative Council. Rather than hold fresh elections for all four seats, elections were held for the two seats whose members had served their full five year terms since 1942; the Calabar seat held by Okon Efiong and the Lagos seat held by H. Nigerian Youth Movement
The Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM) was Nigeria's first genuine nationalist organization, founded in Lagos at Stanley Orogun, with Professor Eyo Ita as the founding father and many others, including Samuel Akisanya. Ernest Ikoli, the first editor of the ''Daily Times of Nigeria'', which was launched in the month of June 1926, was another founding member.
