Shadow Mountain
The Shadow Mountains are located in the Mojave Desert of eastern California in the United States. The mountains lie in a generally north–south direction south of the Kingston Range and east of the Avawatz Mountains and the Silurian Hills. An isolated peak named ''Shadow Mountain'' is located about six miles due east of the main chain of the range. It has a peak elevation of . The Mojave National Preserve lies to the south and east. The Eastern Star Mine is located at the western edge of the range, and the Kingston Spring is found in the northwestern part of the mountains. The Shadow Mountains lie to the north of the small community of Halloran Springs, next to Interstate 15. Kingston Range
The Kingston Range, sometimes called the Kingston Mountains, is located in Inyo and San Bernardino counties in the Mojave Desert in eastern California. The range reaches a height of above sea level at Kingston Peak. The range is located southeast of the Nopah Range, and north of the Shadow Mountains and Interstate 15. Avawatz Mountains
The Avawatz Mountains are located in San Bernardino County, California, in the Mojave Desert. Name There are several theories for the origin of the name Avawatz. It could be derived from the Mohave Indian term "Avi-Ahwat", or "red rock". Alternatively, the name comes from the Southern Paiute word ''iva-wätz'', meaning "white mountain sheep," or another Southern Paiute word, ''ávawatz'', meaning "gypsum". Geography The range lies to the west of State Route 127; between the Owlshead Mountains in the southern end of Death Valley National Park, and the Soda Mountains near the town of Baker. The range is at the intersection of the Garlock Fault and the Death Valley Fault Zone. As such, it is considered the southern end of the Walker Lane geologic trough. Silurian Hills
The Silurian Hills are a small range of hills in the Mojave Desert, southeast of Death Valley National Park, in southern California. The surrounding lower elevation lands provide important connectivity habitat between nearby mountain ranges. The area provides critical habitat and movement corridors for bighorn sheep, desert tortoises, nesting golden eagles, kit foxes and burrowing owls. The Silurian Valley is a largely undisturbed valley that supports wildlife and is an important link for this portion of the northern Mojave Desert.
