Shadow Cabinet Of Mmusi Maimane
The Shadow Cabinet of Mmusi Maimane was formed on 5 June 2014 following his election as Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance and Leader of the Opposition on 29 May 2014. The Democratic Alliance parliamentary caucus also elected other caucus leadership. John Steenhuisen was elected Chief Whip with Anchen Dreyer as Caucus Chairperson. These elections all occurred following the 2014 general elections, in which the Democratic Alliance retained its post as the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa. The shadow cabinet has been reshuffled on various occasions. The first reshuffle occurred in October 2015, when Member of Parliament, Dianne Kohler Barnard, was demoted from her position due to her publishing a controversial Facebook post. The next occurred in November 2016, in the aftermath of the party's parliamentary mid-term caucus elections. Mmusi Aloysias Maimane (born 6 June 1980) is a South African politician, businessman, and Leader of Build One South Africa, a political party. Armiston "Watty" Watson (26 November 1944 – 12 October 2014) was a South African politician and Democratic Alliance stalwart. He served as the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2014 under the leadership of Lindiwe Mazibuko. He was first elected to Parliament in 1994 as an MP for the National Party of South Africa. Gregory Allen Grootboom (born 8 July 1954) is a retired South African politician and psychologist. Biography Grootboom was born in 1954. He started his student activism at the University of the Western Cape in 1973. He soon became involved with the Black Consciousness movement and joined the South African Students Organisation (SASO). He was also involved with the New Unity Movement and played a leading role in student politics. The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) is the upper house of the Parliament of South Africa under the (post-apartheid) constitution which came into full effect in 1997. It replaced the former Senate, but is very similar to that body, and to many other upper houses of legislatures throughout the world, in that its purpose is to represent the governments of the provinces, rather than directly representing the people.
