Shadid (‘Ad's Son)
Shaddād ( ar, شدّاد), also known as Shaddād bin ʽĀd (), was believed to be the king of the lost Arabian city of Iram of the Pillars, an account of which is mentioned in Sura 89 of the Qur'an. Various sources suggest Shaddad was the son of 'Ad al-Miltat ibn Saksak ibn Wa'il ibn Himyar. His story is found in the 277th through 279th nights of the ''Tales of the Arabian Nights'' ''(The Book of One Thousand and One Nights)'' the tale described him as a universal king who ruled over the world and the one who built the city of gold. Brothers Shadīd () and Shaddād are said to have reigned in turn over the 1,000 Adite tribes, each consisting of several thousand men. It is said Shaddad brutally subdued all Arabia and Iraq. Many Arab writers tell of an expedition of Shaddād that caused the Canaanite migration, their settling in Syria, and the Shepherd invasion of Egypt. George Shadid
George P. Shadid (May 15, 1929 – February 3, 2018) was an American Democratic politician. He was sheriff of Peoria County, Illinois from 1976 to 1993 and was in the Illinois State Senate from 1993 until 2006. Background Shadid was born in Clinton, Iowa to immigrants from Lebanon. At age 14, once in Peoria, Illinois, Shadid worked with future mayor Jim Maloof at the Maloof family cleaning business. They remained friends until Maloof's death. Career Shadid became a police officer in 1953. In 1976, he ran for sheriff of Peoria County. Running as a Democrat, with a Republican campaign manager, he became the first Democrat elected as Peoria County sheriff since 1892. He took up the office of sheriff in December 1976. Michael Shadid
Michael Abraham Shadid (1882 – August 13, 1966) was a Lebanese physician who founded the first medical cooperative in Elk City, Oklahoma, in 1931. He was the first president of the Cooperative Health Federation of America, and an advocate for cooperative health care and preventive medicine. Early life Shadid was born in 1882 in Marjayoun, Syria, a town in modern Lebanon, but then in the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate. He was the youngest of 12 children. He attended the American University's high school in Beirut. In 1898 he emigrated to the United States where he was a pack peddler and sold cheap jewelry and buttons door to door. Shadid attended John Tarleton College in Stephenville, Texas, in 1902 and received a degree in medicine from Washington University in St. Louis in 1907.
