Shacklewell Lane Mosque
Shacklewell Lane Mosque ( tr, Shacklewell Camii) is a Turkish mosque located in Shacklewell, London. Established by Ramadan Güney, his wife Suheyla Güney and other Trustees Turkish Cypriot in 1977, it is the first ever Turkish mosque in the United Kingdom. The mosque is an Andalusian-style building and was previously a synagogue, known as the New Dalston Synagogue. Ramadan Güney
Ramadan Güney (18 February 19322 November 2006) was a British-Turkish Cypriot businessman and politician. He was the owner of Brookwood Cemetery, the largest cemetery in the United Kingdom, with the aim of establishing a Turkish cemetery. Güney was also the founder and chairman of the UK Turkish Islamic Trust and had established the first Turkish mosque in London, Shacklewell Lane Mosque, in 1977. He was also a founding member of the VOLKAN organisation in Cyprus, established in the 1950s as part of the struggle against the Greek Cypriot nationalists, EOKA. Turkish Cypriots or Cypriot Turks ( tr, Kıbrıs Türkleri or ''Kıbrıslı Türkler''; el, Τουρκοκύπριοι, Tourkokýprioi) are ethnic Turks originating from Cyprus. Aziziye Mosque (London)
The Aziziye Mosque ( tr, Aziziye Camii) is a mosque in Stoke Newington, London. The mosque was funded by the UK Turkish Islamic Association and the conversion began in 1983. Turks who had once felt reluctant to attend a ‘non-Turkish’ mosque welcomed the congregation as services were provided in the Turkish language rather than in English or Arabic. The total capacity is 2,000 people. The institution includes a Halal butcher, a weekend school (Aziziye Education Centre), a wedding hall and a restaurant. Originally built as a cinema, it first opened in 1913 as the ''Apollo Picture House'', was reopened in 1933 as the ''Ambassador Cinema'' and from 1974 played martial arts films and softcore sex films as the ''Astra Cinema'', before closing in 1983. Suleymaniye Mosque (London)
The Suleymaniye Mosque ( tr, Süleymaniye Camii) is a mosque at Kingsland Road in Haggerston, East London, United Kingdom, which serves the entire Muslim community as well as the Turkish speaking community. The mosque was funded by the UK Turkish Islamic Cultural Centre (UKTICC) and the construction began in 1994 and was finally opened to the public in October 1999. With a total floor space of 8,000 square metres, the total capacity of its Ottoman style mosque is 3,000 people. The mosque includes a conference and wedding hall, classrooms, funeral service facilities as well as accommodation for Marathon School students.
