Shackelford, California
Shackelford is a southern neighbourhood of the city of Modesto in Stanislaus County, California, United States, which was officially annexed on June 1, 2012. The population was 3,371 at the 2010 census, down from 5,170 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Modesto Metropolitan Statistical Area. Prior to its annexation, the neighbourhood was a census-designated place (CDP). History In 1916, the Lion Bridge which was built over the Tuolumne River to improve the access between the cities of Modesto and Ceres. It was constructed at the cost of $111,000. The city of Modesto finally annexed the "Shackelford annexation area" in 2012, regarding the event as "the culmination of a multi-year effort". Lottie Shackelford
Lottie H. Shackelford (born April 30, 1941) is an American politician who in 1987 was the first woman appointed mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1993, President Bill Clinton appointed her to the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), making her the first African-American woman to serve in that role. She also is the longest serving vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), having held the office for 20 years. Lynn Shackelford (born August 27, 1947) is an American former professional basketball player. A graduate of John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California, Shackelford earned 7 varsity letters in 3 years in basketball, baseball and golf. He was the CIF Player of the Year in basketball in 1965 for the Southern California Section. In his senior season, 1965, he averaged 25.6 points a game including two high games of 43 points. A 6'5" forward, Shackelford played college basketball at UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden. He was one of only 4 players to have started on 3 NCAA championship teams ( 67, 68, 69).
