Sfinks Festival
The Sfinks festival is a Belgium, Belgian festival for world music at Boechout. The festival is held during the last weekend in July. History The festival was originally held (1975–1994) in a local school park. In 1982 the festival featured exotic music for the first time which changed its appearance forever. In 1992 and 1994, Friday and Thursday were added to the festival to accommodate the expanding program. In 1994, the venue was changed to a larger site, the 'Molenveld' in Boechout to accommodate the larger crowds. The festival currently receives about 40,000 visitors and over 40 bands each year. Since some years the festival has shrunk again to three days. Bonga (band)
Bonga is a town, woreda and one of the multicapital of the South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region in Ethiopia. Located in the Keffa Zone upon a hill in the upper Barta valley, it has a latitude and longitude of with an elevation of 1,714 meters above sea level. Not confused with another town named "Bonga", near Gambela Region. Overview The neighboring area is known for hot springs, caves and waterfalls. There are fourteenth century ruins associated with the former Kingdom of Kaffa. ''Canto libre'' is the fifth studio album by Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara, released in 1970 by Odeon. In this album, he had the support of Inti-Illimani and Patricio Castillo. Background and recording In 1969, he had released ''Pongo en tus manos abiertas'', an album that «begins the protest work in full swing and with it intensely promotes Salvador Allende's presidential candidacy. Along with other singers he is part of the group called "the nueva canción chilena".» In the recording of this album, Victor had the accompaniment of Patricio Castillo, and Chilean group Inti-Illimani, that he met in 1967 while he was directing ''La remolienda''. Artwork Rubén Nouzeilles was in charge of the artistic direction. Ida Lewis "Queen Ida" Guillory (born January 15, 1929) is a Louisiana Creole accordionist. She was the first female accordion player to lead a zydeco band. Queen Ida's music is an eclectic mix of R&B, Caribbean, and Cajun, though the presence of her accordion always keeps it traditional. Biography Born Ida Lee Lewis to a musical family of rice farmers in Lake Charles, Louisiana, United States, her family were Louisiana Creole people and her first language is French. Her family moved to Beaumont, Texas, when she was ten and eight years later moved to San Francisco, California. Although her mother was an accordion player, women were not encouraged to play in public, and Queen Ida learned mostly from her brother Al Lewis, later known as Al Rapone.
