The Seychelles national basketball team represents Seychelles in international competitions. It is administrated by the Seychelles Basketball Federation. The Seychelles have competed well at the Indian Ocean Island Games but have yet to qualify for the African Basketball Championship. Indian Ocean Island Games
The Indian Ocean Island Games (french: Jeux des îles de l'océan Indien) is a quadrennial multi-sport event from Indian Ocean island nations. The Games was created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1977 and currently gather the island nations and territories of Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion and the Maldives. The number of athletes who participate has increased over the years, it went from 1000 athletes in 1979 to over 1500 participants in 2003 and 2007 and over 2000 participants in 2019. Origins From 1947 until 1963, a precursor called Indian Ocean Games Triangulaire was organized between Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion. In 1963, a football match in Madagascar between Mauritius and Madagascar was abandoned at 1-1 after 54 minutes, and Madagascar declared themselves as winners of the tournament. AfroBasket 2015 Qualification
AfroBasket 2015 Qualification occurred on various dates between 21 September 2014 and 8 March 2015. It was used to determine which African national basketball teams would qualify for the 2015 FIBA Africa Championship. Teams competed with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the Championship tournament. Basketball At The 2015 African Games – Men's Tournament
The 2015 edition of the men's basketball tournament of the African Games was the 11th, organized by FIBA Africa and played under the auspices of FIBA, the basketball sport governing body. The tournament was held from 10 to 18 September 2015 at the Gymnase Makélékélé in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, contested by 9 national teams and won by Angola. 2019 African Games
The 12th African Games was held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. This was the first time that the African Games were hosted by Morocco following the country's readmission to the African Union in January 2017. Bidding process The 12th African Games was schedule in September 2019. Accra, Nairobi and Lusaka announced that they would bid for these Games, but none of them were selected. Malabo, Equatorial Guinea was initially chosen to organise the 2019 African Games at the Second Ordinary Session of the Specialist Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports, which was held at the headquarters of the African Union, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13 to 17 June 2016. However, Equatorial Guinea was unable to host the Games due to economic problems. Lusaka, the capital of Zambia was later speculated to host the Games but refused, citing lack of facilities.
