Zeliha Sevim Burak (29 June 1931 – 31 December 1983) was a Turkish author and playwright. Her mother was a Jewish migrant from Bulgaria and her father was a Turkish sea captain. She was born in Ortaköy and grew up in the Istanbul neighbourhood of Kuzguncuk. She completed middle school in the German high school in Istanbul. She worked in a range of professions from bookshop assistant to seamstress and model, but her main work was writing. Her avant-garde and post-structuralist novels, short stories and plays continue to be celebrated in exhibitions such as "One Master, One World: Sevim Burak" at the Yapı Kredi Cultural Centre 28 May-27 June 2004 and special journal issues such as Kitap-lik issue 155 which celebrates the 80th birthday of the author. Sevim Dağdelen (born 4 September 1975) is a German politician and a member of the Bundestag. She was elected for Left Party () and switched in October 2023 to Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht. Sevim Tanürek (1934(?) – 16 May 1998) was a Turkish classical music artist. Early life She performed in TRT's Radio Ankara between 1950 and 1959. Afterwards, she started her stage performances in Istanbul. She released some 45 rpm singles, sang together with her musical group in a number of film scores and acted also in three movies and one television series as a singer. Traffic crash and death On 11 May 1998 at around 11:45 a.m. local time, while walking on a pedestrian crossing with a green traffic light for pedestrians, she was hit by a motorist and severely injured. The driver, who fled the scene of the crash, was identified as Ahmet Burak Erdoğan, son of the current President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then Mayor of Istanbul.
