Severn Shire
Severn Shire was a local government area in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. Severn Shire was proclaimed on 7 March 1906, one of 134 shires created after the passing of the '' Local Government (Shires) Act 1905''. The shire office was in Glen Innes. Towns and villages in the shire included Deepwater, Dundee Dundee (; sco, Dundee; gd, Dùn Dè or ) is Scotland's fourth-largest city and the 51st-most-populous built-up area in the United Kingdom. New England (New South Wales)
New England is a vaguely defined region in the north of the state of New South Wales, Australia, about 60 km inland from the Tasman Sea. The area includes the Northern Tablelands (or New England Tablelands) and the North West Slopes regions. Stannum, New South Wales
Stannum is a small tin mining village on the Northern Tablelands, in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. The region is in Tenterfield Shire. It is 14 kilometres north north-west of Deepwater and south-west of Tenterfield and 48 kilometres from Glen Innes. It is situated on a plateau known as the Mole Tableland in close proximity to the Queensland border on the Northern Tablelands. Another tin mining village, Torrington lies 13 kilometres to the west. Wellingrove, New South Wales
Wellingrove is a village located on the Wellingrove Road about north west of Glen Innes, New South Wales on the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. At the , Wellingrove had a population of 113. Wellingrove was established in the 1840s when the run of was taken up by George Polhill. Torrington, New South Wales
Torrington (formerly Torington) is a small village in northern New South Wales in Tenterfield Shire. It is 29 kilometres north west of Deepwater and south west of Tenterfield and 61 kilometres from Glen Innes (South-East). It is situated on a plateau known as the Mole Tableland in close proximity to the Queensland border on the Northern Tablelands. A feature of Torrington is its abundance of boulders and rocky outcrops. The most notable boulder outcrop located in the village being "Goat Rock" and just out of town is "Old Mystery Face" History Torrington was named after its English counterpart in Devon. Red Range, New South Wales
Red Range is a village located on the Red Range Road in the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia in Glen Innes Severn Shire. History Origins Red Range was established in 1854. Four years earlier, George Kempton and his wife Harriet had come to Australia from Ely in Cambridgeshire, England to make a new home for themselves. In 1854 he made his first selection, "Rocky Valley", on the (now) Red Range Road along the Mann River. A few years later, he made a second choice, a block of land he called "Splitters Home" at the site later to become Red Range. Within a few years the village grew to consist of a church, a few houses, a general store and a school, surrounded by peppermint bushes. The little slab cottage next to the shop was built around this time and was later used to store produce for the shop. Emmaville, New South Wales
Emmaville is a town on the Northern Tablelands in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. It is in the Glen Innes Severn Council district. Emmaville is at an elevation of 890 metres AHD. At the 2006 census, the Emmaville "urban centre/locality" had a population of 247 (in the 2001 census it was 303) and there were 535 persons usually resident in the Emmaville region. Dundee, New South Wales
Dundee () is a rural locality about 40 kilometres north of Glen Innes on the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on the New England Highway at the Severn River in Severn parish, Gough County, New South Wales. The elevation is 985 metres. History In 1838 John Baker and several others left Sydney to seek land and setup stations on the Northern Tablelands. After the others selected their land Baker continued north to secure the lease of , which he called "Dareel Plains", later to become Dundee. By 1844 the property had been sold several times before Major Archibald Clunes Innes took it over that year.
