Seven Stars F.C.
Seven Stars were an association football (soccer) club from Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. History They were formed in 1995 by Rob Moore. Seven Stars was also known for its commitment to develop talent in under developed the Langa, Khayelitsha and Nyanga and used the under-developed Nyanga Stadium as a home venue. In the 1997–98 National First Division season, Seven Stars were unbeaten in the 38 games under Gavin Hunt, finished as runners-up to coastal champs Engen Santos. The team scored 96 goals and conceded 16 and went through an unbeaten run of 80 games. Stars merged with Cape Town Spurs and became Ajax Cape Town in 1999. However, none of the club's identity, ethos, or commitment to township football was retained after the Ajax merger. It is widely regarded that the ethos of Seven Stars and a winning mentality in Cape Town football were restored by the launch of Cape Town City FC in 2016. National First Division
The National First Division (NFD), officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African club association football, football after the South African Premier Division. Both the NFD and South African Premier Division are organised by the Premier Soccer League. Engen Santos
Santos Football Club or simply Santos, also officially known under their sponsored title as Engen Santos, is a South African professional soccer club based in the Lansdowne, a suburb of the city of Cape Town. It plays in the SAFA Second Division. History The club was established in Heideveld on the Cape Flats in 1982 and was originally known as Lightbodys Santos FC, after its sponsor. During apartheid, it was renowned for the insistence on non-racial inclusivity, hence its nickname "The People's Team". They played in the Federation Professional League (FPL), the only truly non-racial football body in the country from 1982 to 1990. Gavin Hunt
Gavin Hunt (born 11 July 1964) is a South African former football (soccer) player and coach who currently manages Supersport United. He previously managed South African Premier Division, Premier Soccer League club Kaizer Chiefs. On 28 May 2021 Kaizer Chiefs released him from his contract after a string of poor results with the club. A nuggety right-back, Hunt spent almost his entire playing career with Hellenic FC, Hellenic. He had to retire because of an achilles tendon injury and went straight into coaching. Nyanga, Cape Town
Nyanga is a township in the Western Cape, South Africa. Its name in Xhosa means "moon" and it is one of the oldest black townships in Cape Town. It was established as a result of the migrant labour system. In 1948 black migrants were forced to settle in Nyanga as Langa had become too small. Nyanga was one of the poorest places in Cape Town and is still is one of the most dangerous parts of Cape Town. In 2001 its unemployment rate was estimated at being approximately 56% and HIV/AIDS is a huge community issue.
