Setia SPICE
Setia is a Multi-purpose stadium, multipurpose sports complex in George Town, Penang, George Town within the States and federal territories of Malaysia, Malaysian state of Penang. It occupies an area of within the suburb of Bayan Lepas, comprising five components SPICE Arena (formerly named Penang International Sports Arena, PISA), SPICE Convention Centre, SPICE Aquatic Centre, SPICE Canopy and a hotel. The Green Building Initiative, GBI-certified complex is George Town's main Indoor games and sports, indoor sports centre and serves as a major venue for Convention (meeting), business events. Completed in 1997, PISA was one of the venues for the 2001 SEA Games. However, it was plagued with issues related to poor design and maintenance. Bayan Lepas
Bayan Lepas is a suburb of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Located near the southeastern tip of Penang Island, south of the city centre, it is home to the Penang International Airport, the third busiest airport in Malaysia, as well as one of the oldest free industrial zones in the country. Established sometime in the 19th century, Bayan Lepas had been an agricultural village, with rice production as its mainstay. Pakatan Rakyat
Pakatan Rakyat (PR; ) was an informal Malaysian political coalition and successor to Barisan Alternatif (BA). The political coalition was formed by the People's Justice Party (PKR), Democratic Action Party (DAP), and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) on 1 April 2008, after the 12th Malaysian general election, having previously formed the Barisan Alternatif (Alternative Front) in the 10th general election. On 20 April 2010, the Sarawak National Party (SNAP) officially joined as a member of the Pakatan Rakyat after being expelled from Barisan Nasional, but quit the coalition on 6 May 2011. 2008 Penang State Election
The 12th Penang election was held on 8 March 2008. Polling took place in 40 constituencies throughout the State of Penang, with each electing a State Assemblyman to the Penang State Legislative Assembly. The election was conducted by the Malaysian Election Commission. The legislative body had been dissolved on 13 February by the Governor of Penang, Abdul Rahman Abbas, on the advice of the incumbent Chief Minister, Koh Tsu Koon, who also led the state's ruling coalition at the time, Barisan Nasional (BN). Opposing the BN was the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance, which consisted of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), the People's Justice Party (PKR) and the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). The Sukma Games (, lit.: Malaysian Games) is a biennial national multi-sport event involving young athletes from Malaysia's 13 states and 3 Federal Territories. The games are regulated by the National Sports Council of Malaysia, the state sports council of the respective member states, the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the National Sports association of the games respective sporting event.
