Sestao (Bilbao Metro)
Sestao is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in central Sestao, in close proximity to the city hall and the Santa María church. It opened on 8 January 2005 and it acted as northern terminus for line 2 until the opening of the Portugalete extension in 2007. There is a station on the Cercanías Bilbao commuter railway network with the same name, but the two stations are not connected. Station layout Sestao station follows the typical cavern-shaped layout of most underground Metro Bilbao stations designed by Norman Foster, with the main hall located directly above the rail tracks. Sestao is a town and municipality of 27,296 inhabitants located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of Basque Country, northern Spain. It is in the left bank of the Estuary of Bilbao and part of Bilbao's metropolitan area. Sestao was the place of the most important steel industry of Biscay, Altos Hornos de Vizcaya. Line 1 of the Bilbao metro is a rapid transit line in Biscay, Basque Country, Spain. It runs from Etxebarri to Plentzia. Its route covers the municipality of Etxebarri, the city of Bilbao, the right bank of the Nervión river and Uribe Kosta. The line has 29 stations. History On November 11 1995, Lehendakari José Antonio Ardanza opened the first 23 stations of the metro system between Casco Viejo and Plentzia. The next year, on June 24 1996, Gobela opened as an infill station between Areeta and Neguri, in the municipality of Getxo. Areeta is an underground station on line 1 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Areeta, in the municipality of Getxo. The station opened as part of the metro on 11 November 1995, replacing an older overground station. History The station, then known as ''Las Arenas'', first opened to the public in 1887 as the western terminus of the Bilbao-Las Arenas railway. It was an at-grade station, covered by a large train shed. BizkaiBus is the name for bus services serving the province of Biscay, Spain. It is named after the Basque name of the province, ''Bizkaia''. Kabiezes (Bilbao Metro)
Kabiezes is the northern terminus of line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in the neighborhood of Kabiezes, in the municipality of Santurtzi. Construction of the station and the track between Santurtzi and Kabiezes began in 2009 and was delayed after a mudslide flooded the tunnel connecting both stations. It opened on 28 June 2014. Basauri (Bilbao Metro)
Basauri is the southern terminus of line 2 of the Bilbao metro. The station is located in the municipality of Basauri, part of the Bilbao metropolitan area. It opened in 2011. The Cercanías Bilbao commuter railway network (operated by Renfe) also has a Basauri station on its C3 line, but they are not at the same location – there is a distance of about between them, with the Cercanías station serving the industrial area to the south of the town, including the large steel facility.
