Sessa, Switzerland
Sessa is a former municipality in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 18 April 2021 the municipalities of Croglio, Monteggio, Ponte Tresa and Sessa merged to form Tresa. History Sessa is first mentioned in 1335 as ''Sexa''. In the High Middle Ages, members of the Langobard military family, the ''de Sessa'' formed a noble corporation with lands centered in the current municipality. The noble corporation remained in power around the village until the reign of the Swiss Confederation. The ''Capitani'' of (de) Sessa were Imperial vassals. In 1240, Emperor Frederick II took control of Sessa Castle, which was probably in the village. Due to the tradition of imperial immediacy in the Malcantone region (including Sessa, Astano and Monteggio), the Bishop of Como lacked the landlord rights that he held in neighboring villages. Sessa Aurunca is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Caserta, Campania, southern Italy. It is located on the south west slope of the extinct volcano of Roccamonfina, by rail west north west of Caserta and east of Formia. It is situated on the site of ancient Suessa Aurunca, near the river Garigliano. The hill on which Sessa lies is a mass of volcanic tuff. Toponym The name Sessa comes from '' Colonia Julia Felix Classica Suessa'' (or in short S.P.Q.S."Suessa"), a city belonging to the ancient Auruncan Pentapolis, which is the historic core of the downtown. Duke of Sessa is a Spanish noble title awarded to Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba by Ferdinand II in 1507. It was the fifth ducal title bestowed on Gonzalo, after the ducal titles of Santángelo (1497), Terranova (1502), Andría (1507) and Montalto (1507). Its territorial designation refers to Sessa Aurunca, at the time in the Kingdom of Naples. The title is one of the numerous duchies created by the Catholic Monarchs and never represented any territorial claim. With the loss of the Kingdom of Naples in 1806, the designation has ceased to be located in Spanish-controlled territory. The 15th duke, Vicente Pío Osorio de Moscoso y Ponce de León (1801–1864), held a total of 109 titles of nobility, among them fourteen ducal titles, and is known as the most titled individual in the history of Spain. Carmine Sessa, alias Carmine Marletta (born 1951) is an Italian-American mobster and former consigliere of the Brooklyn-based Colombo crime family and played a key role in the family from 1991 to 1993. He later became a government witness. Biography Murders After becoming a government witness, Sessa admitted to personally murdering four people. In September 1984, Sessa murdered Mary Bari, a former girlfriend of then Colombo consigliere Alphonse Persico. When Persico went into hiding to avoid an indictment, the family decided to kill Bari out of concern that she knew Persico's location. Gastón Alejandro Sessa (born 15 April 1973 in La Plata) is a retired Argentine professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He last played for Villa San Carlos in Argentina. Club career Sessa started his career with local club Estudiantes in 1993 before moving down a division to join Huracán Corrientes in 1995. His first major honour as a player came in the 1995/1996 season when he helped Huracán win promotion to the Primera División Argentina by winning the Primera B Nacional. After one season playing with Huracán in the Primera he moved to Rosario Central and then Racing Club. In 1999, he joined River Plate where he was part of the squad that won back to back the Apertura 1999 and Clausura 2000 championships. He was a substitute for Roberto Bonano in both tournaments.
