Serramonte is a large 1960s residential neighborhood developed by Fred and Carl Gellert and was one of the largest construction jobs in Northern California at the time. This region of Daly City located near Colma which was a former ranch of 900 acres south of San Francisco, California, is also home to numerous shopping malls, strip malls, and big box retailers. When it was still being constructed at the time, locals resembled it to the adjacent Westlake Neighborhood which was developed by Henry Doelger as it made a huge impact in the city as it was like building a city within one. Serramonte is also home to thousands of Filipinos; once known as Serra-Manila. Serramonte Center
Serramonte Mall is a . super-regional shopping mall located in Daly City, California. The mall is anchored by Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Target. The mall is owned by Capital & Counties and is managed by Jones Lang LaSalle. History Serramonte Center was built in 1969 along with the Serramonte Neighborhood Development of Fred and Carl Gellert. The center has been renovated in 1995, 2004 and currently as of 2021. Montgomery Ward was an original anchor. After that chain's closure in 2001, Target replaced it. In 2002, the mall was sold to Capital and Counties USA. A renovation completed in 2004 has given the main building a Zen feel. It included a koi pond, bamboo landscapes, and plush furniture. Other renovations include the remodeling of the food court seating area and the addition of more food court options. Daly City, California
Daly City () is the second most populous city in San Mateo County, California, United States, with population of 104,901 according to the 2020 census. Junipero Serra Boulevard
Junipero Serra Boulevard is a major boulevard in and south of San Francisco named after Franciscan friar Junipero Serra. Within the city, it forms part of the route of State Route 1, the shortest connection between Interstate 280 and the Golden Gate Bridge. The remainder, in San Mateo County, was bypassed or replaced by I-280, the Junipero Serra Freeway. Colma, California
Colma (Ohlone for "Springs") is a small incorporated List of municipalities in California, town in San Mateo County, California, on the San Francisco Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area. The population was 1,507 at the 2020 census. The town was founded as a necropolis in 1924. With most of Colma's land dedicated to cemetery, cemeteries, the population of the dead—not specifically known but speculated to be around 1.5 million—outnumbers that of the living by a ratio of nearly a thousand to one. This has led to Colma being called "the City of the Silent" and has given rise to a humorous motto, formerly featured on the city's website: "It's great to be alive in Colma". Westlake, Daly City, California
The Westlake District of Daly City, California, was originally created as one of the first post-World War II white-only suburbs in the United States, though for several decades now is as ethnically diverse as the City of Daly City itself. Located just south of San Francisco, Westlake in its early years had frequently been compared to Levittown, New York, the first major large-scale postwar middle-class white-only housing development in the U.S. After World War II moderate-cost housing began in Daly City as well as in most other Bay Area communities.
