Serra da Bodoquena National Park ( pt, Parque Nacional da Serra da Bodoquena) is a national park in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Location The park belongs to the cerrado biome. It covers an area of , was created on 21 September 2000 and is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. The park is in the Pantanal Biosphere Reserve, which also includes the Pantanal, Chapada dos Guimarães and Emas national parks, and the Serra de Santa Bárbara, Nascentes do Rio Taquari and Pantanal de Rio Negro state parks. It covers parts of the municipalities of Porto Murtinho, Jardim, Bonito and Bodoquena, Mato Grosso do Sul. Conservation The park is classified as IUCN protected area category II (national park). Bonito is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. As of 2020 its population was 22,190, and it has an area of . National Parks ( pt, Parques nacionais) are a legally-defined type of protected area of Brazil. The first parks were created in the 1930s, and other parks were gradually added, typically protecting a natural monument such as a waterfall or gorge near to a coastal population centre. At least two early parks were later submerged by hydroelectric reservoirs. The first park in the Amazon rainforest was inaugurated in 1974. Today the national parks cover a huge area, particularly in the Amazon.
