Serpentcult
Serpentcult (alternately stylized as SerpentCult) were a Belgian doom metal band active between the years 2006 and 2011. They released one EP, '' Trident nor Fire'' (2007), and two full-length albums: '' Weight of Light'' (2008) and '' Raised by Wolves'' (2011). History Formation and ''Trident nor Fire'' EP (2006–2007) Serpentcult formed in 2006 shortly after the dissolution of Thee Plague of Gentlemen. That band split up in July of that year due to the lead vocalist being arrested for, and confessing to, child rape and similar sex crimes, having especially targeted girls who were Muslim and/or of eastern European descent. Thee Plague of Gentlemen's frontman was condemned and disowned by his band members, the Belgian media, and I Hate Records, who subsequently removed the band's debut album from their catalog. Rise Above Records
Rise Above Records is a London-based independent record label owned by Lee Dorrian (of the band Cathedral and formerly of Napalm Death). Founding Lee Dorrian started Rise Above Records in 1988 without the intention of the label being an ongoing position. It was during the same year that he had left his previous band, Napalm Death. Dorrian explained that it was predominantly done to "get the dole off my back as they were asking a lot of questions as Napalm Death were on the front cover of the ''NME'' and on TV three times in one week, but I was still living in a council flat and couldn't even afford the rent." Rise Above Records was initially started up on the Enterprise Allowance Scheme, a Conservative government initiative which fronted cash to young entrepreneurs. Roadburn Festival
Roadburn Festival is an international music festival held in Tilburg, Netherlands every April since 1999. It was set up as a spin-off from the Roadburn music blog founded by Jurgen van den Brand and Walter Hoeijmakers. Originally focused on stoner rock, Roadburn grew into a major event spanning the entire spectrum of heavy rock and experimental music. The key staff involved with running the festival are Frens Frijns (managing director, CEO of Tilburg's 013 venue), Walter Hoeijmakers (promoter, artistic director) and Becky Laverty (press, communication, side programme). Since 2014, Roadburn Festival publishes a daily fanzine that is distributed freely to its attendees. The fanzine is titled ''Weirdo Canyon Dispatch'' and is edited by JJ Koczan, one of the principal live photographers of the festival and the editor of ''The Obelisk'' webzine. A trident is a three- pronged spear. It is used for spear fishing and historically as a polearm. The trident is the weapon of Poseidon, or Neptune, the God of the Sea in classical mythology. Kuurne
Kuurne () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises only the town of Kuurne proper. On January 1, 2006, Kuurne had a total population of 12,591. The total area is 10.01 km² which gives a population density of 1258 inhabitants per km². The Leie functions as a natural border between Kuurne and Harelbeke. Inhabitants from Kuurne are nicknamed 'donkeys'. Warning (UK Band)
Warning was a UK-based doom metal band. Warning flagged the rise of post-2000 wave of traditional doom metal, and were one of the most important, highly regarded and influential bands to emerge from the '90s doom metal scene. The band was founded by guitarist/singer/songwriter Patrick Walker in 1994 in Harlow, Essex. Warning's music is notable for its down-tempo, progressive, melodic and heavy doom-laden sound; the idiosyncratic and poignant vocals of Patrick Walker; and his introspective, darkly-confessional lyrical themes. The band released two demo tapes, Revelation Looms in February 1996 and Blessed by the Sabbath in March 1997, which led them to gain underground metal press attention and label interest. Esoteric (band)
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres. History Esoteric was formed in 1992, and in 1993, released '' Esoteric Emotions – The Death of Ignorance'' – a demo tape containing 82 minutes of material with a total of eight tracks. Shortly thereafter they received an offer from Aesthetic Death to record a full-length CD of new material.
