Serious Tam
''Serious Tam'' is the second studio album by Papua New Guinean musician George Telek. The album was released in July 2000. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2001, the album was nominated for ARIA Award for Best World Music Album. The Times voted the album as 'Best Pop Album of 2000. Reception Diana Potts from AllMusic said "Translated, most of the songs on ''Serious Tam'' are about the common themes of daily life and passionate love. This a definite global pop album with an ethnic twist. ''Serious Tams tribal drum sounds and simplicity will take the listener to a better, more serene place." George Telek
George Telek Mamua MBE, commonly known simply as Telek, is a musician and singer from Papua New Guinea. He has won one ARIA Award for this 1997 self-titled album. Telek sings in his native language, Kuanua, and in Tok Pisin. Many of his songs are sung in three-part harmonies that are characteristic of the Tolai. Career 1959-1995: Early Years Born in 1959 in Barovon village near Kokopo in East New Britain Province, Telek is one of the few Papua New Guinean singers to gain an international following. Telek sang with various bands in Papua New Guinea early in his career - most notably with the contemporary Tolai group Painim Wok where he was the lead vocalist. In 1989, Telek met David Bridie of the Australian band Not Drowning, Waving, and they recorded the album ''Tabaran'', which was released in 1990. David Bridie
David Ross Hope Bridie is an Australian contemporary musician and songwriter. He was a founding mainstay member of World music band Not Drowning, Waving which released six studio albums to critical acclaim. He also formed a chamber pop group, My Friend the Chocolate Cake, which released seven studio albums. During his solo career he has issued five studio albums and worked on soundtracks for Australian films and television like ''The Man Who Sued God'', '' Remote Area Nurse, Secret City'', and '' The Circuit''. Bridie is the founder and artistic director of Wantok Musik Foundation; a not-for-profit music label that records, releases and promotes culturally infused music from Indigenous Australia, Melanesia and Oceania.
