Serguei Petrovich Katchiourine (russian: Серге́й Петрович Качурин; born August 29, 1973) is a Kyrgyzstani épée fencer. At age thirty-four, Katchiourine made his official debut for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed in the individual épée event. Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. The ( or , ), sometimes spelled epee in English, is the largest and heaviest of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing. The modern derives from the 19th-century , a weapon which itself derives from the French small sword. This contains a detailed contempraneous description of the history and form of the sport. Fabrice Jeannet (born 20 October 1980 in Fort-de-France, Martinique) is a retired French épée fencer. Jeannet won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics and a silver medal in the individual épée in 2008. He was also a member of the French team that won the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating Spain in the final. He accomplished this with his teammates Ulrich Robeiri, Gauthier Grumier and Érik Boisse.
