Sergio Gorzy
Sergio Gorzyczanski Jones (born 14 June 1958) is a Uruguayan sports journalist, sportscaster and television presenter. With an extensive career, since the mid-1970s Gorzy has hosted numerous sports and variety shows on radio and television, including ''Pasión'', ''La Hora de los Deportes'' and ''Cámara Celeste''. As a sports journalist he has covered every edition of the FIFA World Cup since 1978. He has also ventured into acting. From 2014 to 2016 he served as president of the Central Israelite Committee of Uruguay, the main organization of the country's Jewish community. Early life Sergio Gorzyczanski Jones was born on June 14, 1965, at the Italian Hospital in Montevideo, the son of Berta Jones and Israel "Julio" Gorzyczanski, both hoteliers and travel agents. The Iris Awards ( es, Premios Iris), created by the newspaper ''El País'', are given for achievements in Uruguayan radio, television and social networks. History The first edition of the awards was in 1983, although they were not given again until 1995. Since then they have been delivered annually. There are more than 30 categories, among which the Golden Iris ( es, Premio Iris de Oro) is most prominent. The awards are given by the newspaper ''El País'' and disseminated by its entertainment supplement ''Sábado Show''. The trophy's shape is based on a human figure holding an eye with a square iris. The Synagogue of the New Jewish Congregation ( es, Sinagoga de la Nueva Congregación Israelita, often known by its acronym NCI) is a synagogue in Montevideo, Uruguay. Overview The New Jewish Congregation was founded in 1936 mostly by German and Austrian Jews who fled Nazism. It established two synagogues, the big one on Wilson Ferreira Aldunate Street is Conservative, the smaller one was Orthodox. Telenoche is the news program of the Uruguayan Channel 4. It has been broadcast daily since 1968. Three editions of the newscast are produced by Channel 4, being called differently, depending on the time of day, and are simulcast live on owned-and-operated stations throughout the country. Canal 4, previously known as ''Monte Carlo Televisión,'' is a television station located in Montevideo, Uruguay''.'' Owned by Grupo Monte Carlo, it is the second oldest television channel in the country, beginning its broadcasts on April 23, 1961. Canal 10 started on December 7, 1956. Canal 12 was the third channel, May 2, 1962, and Canal 5, state-owned, was the last station to start broadcasting, on June 19, 1963. Alberto Sonsol
Alberto Sonsol Cohen (November 26, 1957 – March 25, 2021) was a Uruguayan sports journalist, sportscaster and television presenter. Biography Alberto Sonsol Cohen was born in ''barrio'' Palermo, Montevideo to David Sonsol and Leonor Cohen. Coming from a Jewish family, Sonsol attended Liceo Yavne. In January 1984, he emigrated to Israel, where he worked as a waiter in an Argentine restaurant in Tel Aviv. However, the same year he returned to Uruguay to work as a sports journalist. On March 12, 2021, it was announced that he had contracted COVID-19. On March 16, he was hospitalized at the British Hospital of Montevideo, after a low level of oxygen was detected in his blood, and four days later he was transferred to the ICU due to worsening symptoms. He died on March 25, 2021, at the age of 63. He was buried on April 2 in the Israelite Cemetery of La Paz.
