Sergey Shubinsky
Sergey Nikolayevich Shubinsky (russian: Сергей Николаевич Шубинский; 1834–1913) was a Russian historian and journalist who edited two widely read magazines concerned with the history of Imperial Russia.Глинский Б. Shubinsky had a successful military career from 1854 onward, retiring with the rank of Major General in 1887. He developed a keen interest in the comparatively recent history of his country while collecting hitherto unpublished anecdotes about Prince Potemkin. Shubinsky edited an illustrated monthly periodical, '' Old and New Russia'', in 1875-79, before setting up a more widely distributed magazine, '' The Historical Herald'', in 1880. The Russian Archive
''Russky Arkhiv'' (russian: Русский архив/Русскій Архивъ, Russian Archives) was a Russian historical and literary monthly (in 1880–1884, a fortnightly) magazine, published in Moscow in 1863–1917. Conceived originally by Alexey Khomyakov, it was launched and edited by Pyotr Bartenev, with a view to giving its readership the full and objective account of Russian history. In the course of its history the magazine published a host of important historical documents, including the previously unreleased archive materials, concerning correspondences, biographies, diaries, travel notes or memoirs of renowned historical figures, focusing on the history of Russian nobility of the 18th and the early 19th centuries. ''Russkaya Starina'' ( rus, Русская старина, p=ˈruskəjə stərʲɪˈna; ''Russian Antiquity'') was a Russian history journal published monthly in St. Petersburg by amateur historian Mikhail Semevsky and his successors between 1870 and 1916. Its authors included Ivan Zabelin, Dmitry Ilovaysky, Nikolai Karlovich Shilder, and Nikolay Kostomarov. A collected edition was reprinted in 2008. Semevsky was highly enthusiastic about the history of 18th-century Russia. His journal covered the imperial period of Russian history, including the era of palace revolutions. It was ''Russkaya Starina'' that first brought to light the unpublished pages of ''Eugene Onegin'' and ''Dead Souls'', Bolotov's memoirs, Kuchelbecker's diary, and many other materials long forgotten or repressed by censorship. Mikhail Ivanovich Semevsky (Russian: Михаил Иванович Семевский; 1837–92) was a Russian Imperial amateur historian who focused on the era of palace revolutions and the history of the 18th-century Russia. Pyotr Bartenev
Pyotr Ivanovich Bartenev (Пётр Ива́нович Барте́нев; 13 October 1829 – 4 November 1912) was a Russian historian and collector of unpublished memoirs. Of noble birth, Bartenev attended the Moscow University. In 1856, he undertook the first publication of the correspondence of Tsar Alexis, which brought him to the attention of the leading Slavophiles. These connections helped him secure the post of director at the Chertkov Library, then the only public library in Moscow. At this position he consulted Leo Tolstoy on the details of the Napoleonic wars. Tolstoy, then at work on ''War and Peace'', said that "turning to Bartenev with a research query was like turning on the tap of a samovar". In 1863, Bartenev founded ''The Russian Archive'', the first history journal in Russia.
