Sergey Matveychik
Sergey Sergeyevich Matveychik ( be, Сяргей Сяргеевіч Мацвейчык; russian: Сергей Сергеевич Матвейчик; born 5 June 1988) is a Belarusian professional footballer who plays for Gomel. International career Matveychik was part of the Belarus U21 that finished in 3rd place at the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. He played in two of the matches, receiving a red card in the game against Switzerland U21. Matveychik made his debut for the senior national side of his country on 15 November 2014, in a match against Spain in a Euro 2016 qualifier, playing the full 90 minutes. Zhlobin
Zhlobin ( be, Жло́бін; russian: Жло́бин, pl, Żłobin, lt, Žlobinas) is a city in the Zhlobin District of Gomel Region, Belarus, located on the Dnieper river. As of 2017, the population was 76,078. The city is notable for being the location where steelmaker BMZ was established. BMZ is one of the largest companies in Belarus, and an important producer in the worldwide markets of steel wires and cords. The company is the main sustainer of the town's economy. History In 1939, 19% of the town's population was Jewish. During World War II, Zhlobin was occupied by the German Army from 3 July 1941 until 13 July 1944. The Nazis captured the Jews and imprisoned them in 2 different ghettos, where they suffered from starvation, disease and abuse. On April 12, 1942, 1,200 Jews were murdered in the ghettos. 2010–11 Belarusian Cup
2010–11 Belarusian Cup was the twentieth season of the Belarusian annual cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it was conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. The first games were played on 23 July 2010. Winners of the Cup qualify for the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. First round 32 teams started the competition in this round: 12 teams from the First League, 16 teams from Second League (all but DSK-2 Gomel and Gomel-2, both of which are reserve teams for First League clubs) and 4 amateur clubs. 4 First League clubs that were at the top of league table at the moment of the drawings (Gomel, Volna Pinsk, Granit Mikashevichi and DSK Gomel) and all 12 Premier League teams received a bye to the next round. 2018–19 Belarusian Cup is the twenty eighth season of the Belarusian annual cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. 2020 Belarusian Premier League
The 2020 Belarusian Premier League was the 30th season of top-tier football in Belarus. Dynamo Brest were the defending champions, having won their first league title last year. Shakhtyor Soligorsk became champions on the last play date by beating FC Minsk 4–2. Meanwhile, BATE Borisov didn't win and drew 0–0 at Dinamo Minsk so Shaktyor Soligorsk finished 1 point above BATE in the table and will play in the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League. By late March 2020, it was the only European top-flight league being contested, as all others were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic; games were played with crowds. As a result, this led to substantially increased viewership from all over the world, due to sporting inactivity elsewhere. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League.
