Serein (song)
"Serein" is a song by Swedish heavy metal band Katatonia. It is the second single off of their tenth studio album ''The Fall of Hearts''. The song title alludes to the concept of raining without clouds being visible. Background The song was first released as the second single off of Katatonia's tenth studio album ''The Fall of Hearts'' on 3 May 2016. The song's official music video was debuted a week later exclusively through ''Billboards website. The video features a man writing the song's lyrics in pen and paper in black and white video. Themes and composition The word "Serein" was described by guitarist Anders Nystrom to mean "when rain falls but you can’t see any cloud". (Alternatively defined to mean "fine rain falling after sunset from a sky in which no clouds are visible".) Katatonia
Katatonia are a Swedish heavy metal band formed in Stockholm in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström. The band started as a studio-only project for the duo, as an outlet for the band's love of death metal. Increasing popularity led them to add more band members for live performances, though outside of the band's founders, the lineup was a constantly changing, revolving door of musicians throughout the 1990s, notably including Mikael Åkerfeldt of the band Opeth for a period. After two death/doom albums, ''Dance of December Souls'' (1993) and ''Brave Murder Day'' (1996), problems with Renkse's vocal cords coupled with new musical influences led the band away from the screamed vocals of death metal to a more traditional, melodic form of heavy metal music. The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the United States) are an English gothic rock band formed in 1986. Initially known as The Sisterhood, the band was started by frontman Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams (both from The Sisters of Mercy), soon adding drummer Mick Brown (Red Lorry Yellow Lorry) and guitarist Simon Hinkler (Artery and Pulp). Anders Nyström (born 22 April 1975), also known as Blakkheim (or formerly Blackheim), is a Swedish musician. Biography Nyström founded the Swedish metal band Katatonia with singer Jonas Renkse in 1991. Nyström is involved in the songwriting, backing vocals, keyboards, programming, arrangements, art direction and production of Katatonia along with Renkse. He used to be a member of the metal band Bewitched from 1995 to 1997 and is still with Jonas Renkse on the death metal project Bloodbath.
