Sequoioideae
Sequoioideae, popularly known as redwoods, is a subfamily of coniferous trees within the family Cupressaceae. It includes the largest and tallest trees in the world. Description The three redwood subfamily genera are '' Sequoia'' from coastal California and Oregon, ''Sequoiadendron'' from California's Sierra Nevada, and ''Metasequoia'' in China. The redwood species contains the largest and tallest trees in the world. These trees can live for thousands of years. Threats include logging, fire suppression, climate change, illegal marijuana cultivation, and burl poaching. Only two of the genera, ''Sequoia'' and ''Sequoiadendron'', are known for massive trees. Trees of ''Metasequoia'', from the single living species ''Metasequoia glyptostroboides'', are much smaller. State Of Sequoyah
The State of Sequoyah was a proposed state to be established from the Indian Territory in the eastern part of present-day Oklahoma. In 1905, with the end of tribal governments looming (as prescribed by the Curtis Act of 1898), Native Americans of the Five Civilized Tribes—the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek (Muscogee), and Seminole—in Indian Territory proposed to create a state as a means to retain control of their lands. Their intention was to have a state under Native American constitution and governance. The proposed state was to be named in honor of Sequoyah, the Cherokee who created a writing system in 1825 for the Cherokee language. Tour Sequoia (previously known as tour Bull, and also known as tour SFR or tour Cegetel) is an office skyscraper located in La Défense business district just west of Paris, France. Built in 1990, the 119-metre-tall tower represents the transition between the third and the fourth generations of buildings in La Défense. Sequoyah is a census-designated place (CDP) in Rogers County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 671 at the 2000 census. Geography Sequoyah is located at (36.386400, -95.589467). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 671 people, 238 households, and 199 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 83.6 people per square mile (32.3/km2). There were 248 housing units at an average density of 30.9/sq mi (11.9/km2). The Sequoyah Nuclear Plant is a nuclear power plant located on located east of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, and north of Chattanooga, abutting Chickamauga Lake, on the Tennessee River. The facility is owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The plant has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors. Sequoia Hospital is a hospital in Redwood City, California, US. It is operated by Dignity Health. History Founding In 1938, a group of nine women led by Mary "Dove" Beeger appealed to the city council in Redwood City for a hospital to serve the communities of southern San Mateo County. The city council authorized a study that confirmed the lack of hospital facilities locally. But construction was delayed first by decisions to issue bonds to build a city hall and to build a library, and then by World War II. In 1946, voters approved the creation of the Sequoia Hospital District. Construction of the hospital began in 1949 as one of the first district hospitals in California.
