Sequal (group)
Sequal was an American Latin freestyle female duo from Miami, composed of Angie Vollaro and Maria Christensen. The duo was founded in 1984 by producer Lewis A. Martineé. The name-sake ''Sequal'', was to be the follow-up band to the immense popularity set forth by his first incarnation known as the group Exposé. Career The group's first releases in 1985–86; "It's Not Too Late", "Stand By" and "She Don't Want You", were on Jose Armada Jr.'s primary independent label Joey Boy Records in Miami and became club smash hits. In 1988, with the success of their club hits, the group was signed with major label Capitol/EMI Records, releasing its only self-titled album, which had a plethora of producers, including Stock Aitken Waterman ("Tell Him I Called"), Kurtis Mantronik ("Tell the Truth"), Michael Morejon, and Martineé. Holland–Dozier–Holland
Holland–Dozier–Holland was a songwriting and production team consisting of Lamont Dozier and brothers Brian and Eddie Holland. The trio wrote, arranged and produced many songs that helped define the Motown sound in the 1960s. During their tenure at Motown Records from 1962 to 1967, Dozier and Brian Holland were the composers and producers for each song, and Eddie Holland wrote the lyrics and arranged the vocals. Their most celebrated productions were singles for the Four Tops and the Supremes, including 10 of the Supremes' 12 US No. 1 singles, including "Baby Love", "Stop! In the Name of Love", and "You Keep Me Hangin' On". From 1969 to 1972, due to a legal dispute with Motown, they did not write material under their own names, but instead used the collective pseudonym "Edythe Wayne". Freestyle music, also called Latin freestyle or Latin hip-hop ''(sic)'' is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area and Philadelphia, primarily among Hispanic Americans and Italian Americans in the 1980s. It experienced its greatest popularity from the late 1980s until the early 1990s. A common theme of freestyle lyricism originated as heartbreak in an urban environment typified by New York City. An important precursor to freestyle is 1982's " Planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force. Shannon's 1983 hit " Let the Music Play" is often considered the first freestyle song and the first major song recorded by a Latin American artist is " Please Don't Go" by Nayobe from 1984.
