Seongsu Bridge Collapse
The Seongsu Bridge disaster occurred on the morning of October 21, 1994, when a section of the upper truss of the Seongsu Bridge collapsed onto the Han River (Korea), Han River in Seoul, Seoul, South Korea, killing 32 people and injuring 17 others. A combination of Welding defect, faulty welding, rusted extension hinges, and insufficient maintenance resulted in the Structural integrity and failure, structural failure of the bridge. The collapse was part of a string of disasters during the Miracle on the Han River, modernization of South Korea, including the fire of a sightseeing boat, the Sinking of MV Seohae, sinking of MV ''Seohae'', the crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 733, the Mugunghwa-ho#Accidents, Gupo Station rail accident, the 1995 Daegu gas explosions, and the Sampoong Department Store collapse.
