Sentinel Island is a granite island, with an area of 10 ha, in south-eastern Australia. It is part of Tasmania’s Sentinel Island Group, lying in eastern Bass Strait off the north-west coast of Flinders Island in the Furneaux Group. Until 1985 it was used for grazing sheep. Sentinel Island (Alaska)
The Sentinel Island Light is a lighthouse in Alaska adjacent to Lynn Canal. Location The Sentinel Island Light is at the northern entrance to the Favorite Channel, between the mainland and Lincoln and Shelter Islands. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 2, 2002. History On August 5, 1910, the steamship ''Princess May'' grounded on rocks just north of Sentinel Island. Although the ship was successfully taken off the rocks on September 5, 1910, photographic images showing the ship pointing in the air at low tide became famous.Turner, ''Pacific Princesses'', at pages 109 to 112. The 1930s lighthouse, replacing an earlier wooden structure, was built for $35,310. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands, an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal which also includes South Sentinel Island. It is home to the Sentinelese, an indigenous people in voluntary isolation who have defended, often by force, their protected isolation from the outside world. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Protection of Aboriginal Tribes Act of 1956 prohibits travel to the island, and any approach closer than , in order to protect the remaining tribal community from "mainland" infectious diseases which they (likely) have no acquired immunity against. The area is patrolled by the Indian Navy. Nominally, the island belongs to the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. South Sentinel Island
South Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. It is long northeast to southwest and up to wide. At only , it is much smaller than its counterpart North Sentinel Island and is currently uninhabited. The island belongs to the Port Blair tehsil in the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, neighbouring North Sentinel Island. Geography South Sentinel is west-northwest of Little Andaman Island in the south of the Andaman chain but south of its counterpart North Sentinel Island. From the limited information available it can be said that South Sentinel Island is a forested coral reef.
