Sensation (psychology)
A sense is a biological system used by an organism for sensation, the process of gathering information about the world through the detection of stimuli. (For example, in the human body, the brain which is part of the central nervous system receives signals from the senses which continuously receive information from the environment, interprets these signals, and causes the body to respond, either chemically or physically.) Although traditionally five human senses were identified as such (namely sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing), it is now recognized that there are many more. Senses used by non-human organisms are even greater in variety and number. During sensation, sense organs collect various stimuli (such as a sound or smell) for transduction, meaning transformation into a form that can be understood by the brain. Sensation and perception are fundamental to nearly every aspect of an organism's cognition, behavior and thought. In organisms, a sensory organ consists o ...

''Sensation'' was an exhibition of the collection of contemporary art owned by Charles Saatchi, including many works by Young British Artists, (YBAs), which first took place 18 September – 28 December 1997 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The exhibition later toured to the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and the Brooklyn Museum in New York City. A proposed showing at the National Gallery of Australia was cancelled when the gallery's director decided the exhibition was "too close to the market." The show generated controversy in London and New York City due to the inclusion of images of Myra Hindley and the Virgin Mary. It was criticised by New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani and others for attempting to boost the value of the work by showing it in institutions and public museums. Works The artworks in ''Sensation'' were from the collection of Charles Saatchi, a leading collector, advertising mogul and publiciser of contemporary art. Sensation Play (BDSM)
Erotic sensation play is a class of activities meant to impart physical sensations upon a partner, as opposed to mental forms of erotic play such as power exchange or sexual roleplaying. Sensation play can be ''sensual'', where the sensations are generally pleasing and light. Many couples that would not consider themselves active in BDSM are familiar with this kind of play: the use of silk scarves, feathers, ice, massage oils, and other similar implements. Sensation play in BDSM can also involve sadomasochistic play, involving the application of ''carefully controlled'' stimuli to the human body so that it reacts as if it were actually hurt. While this can involve the infliction of actual pain, it is usually done in order to release pleasurable endorphins, creating a sensation somewhat like runner's high or the afterglow of orgasm. Examples In BDSM play, the top (or dominant) introduces and controls the sensation to the bottom (or submissive). * Two partners exploring the sen ...

Sensation (mango)
The 'Sensation' mango is a late-season mango cultivar that originated in south Florida and was grown on a commercial scale. History The original tree grew from a seed planted in North Miami, Florida in 1935. For some decades the parents of Sensation were unknown, but a 2005 pedigree analysis estimated that Sensation was likely a cross between 'Haden' and 'Brooks'. The tree first fruited in 1941. In 1949 it was named and the tree was moved to the Carmichael nursery in Perrine, Florida by J.B. Carmichael, where it began to be propagated. Despite possessing outstanding color and good production characteristics, Sensation had a drawback due to problems with uneven ripening. After receiving some initial commercial plantings, it fell out of favor as a commercial cultivar and did not become a popular dooryard cultivar in Florida. Some trees remain in commercial groves. Sensation trees are planted in the collections of the USDA's germplasm repository in Miami, Florida, the University ...
