Sengadal
''Sengadal'' (''The Dead Sea'') is a 2011 Indian Tamil language, Tamil-language independent film written and directed by Leena Manimekalai, who makes her directing debut and stars in the film. Produced by Janaki Sivakumar, the film features cinematography by M. J. Radhakrishnan and editing by Sreekar Prasad. The film was initially banned by the regional centre of the Censor Board, but Film Certification Appellate Tribunal, Appellate Tribunal authorities of the board at New Delhi cleared the film in July 2011 after legal struggle. ''Sengadal'' was part of the Indian Panorama at the 42nd International Film Festival of India after the censor board had cleared the film. Leena Manimekalai
Leena Manimekalai is an Indian filmmaker, poet and an actor. Her works include five published poetry anthologies and a dozen films in genres, documentary, fiction and experimental poem films. She has been recognised with participation, mentions and best film awards in many international and national film festivals. Films and activism After a brief period as an assistant director with mainstream filmmakers and an intensive experience as a Television Producer and Anchor, she debuted in 2002 with the short documentary film ''Mathamma''. The 20-minute-long docu-fiction is about devoting girl children to the deity, a practice prevalent among the Arundhatiyar community in Mangattucheri village near Arakkonam, Chennai. Her other films too deal with the issues of the marginalised. ''Parai'' is a film on violence against Dalit women. Antonythasan Jesuthasan
Antonythasan Jesuthasan ( ta, அந்தோனிதாசன் யேசுதாசன்; born 1967), also known by the pseudonym Shobasakthi ( ta, ஷோபா சக்தி), is a Sri Lankan Tamil author and actor. Early life and family Jesuthasan was born in 1967. He is originally from the village of Allaipiddy on the island of Velanaitivu in northern Sri Lanka. Appalled by the Black July anti-Tamil riots, Jesuthasan joined the militant Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as a "helper" when he was around 15 or 16. He became a full-time member of the LTTE in 1984, receiving training locally and taking on the noms de guerre "Thasan" and "Buckle". A natural artist, Jesuthasan took part in the LTTE's 1985 street drama ''Vidduthalaikaali'' (Liberation Kali). Jesuthasan became disillusioned with the LTTE and left the organisation in December 1986 for which he received the customary punishment.
