S." or "Gi" Stephens (November 4, 1900 – June 9, 1973), was a Virginia lawyer and Democratic Party politician who served in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly and as the 27th lieutenant governor of Virginia from 1952 to 1962. His state political career ended with a loss in the Democratic primary for Governor in 1961, after he and Governor J. Lindsay Almond broke with the Byrd Organization, which wanted to continue its policy of massive resistance to desegregation of Virginia's schools after both the Virginia Supreme Court and a 3-judge federal panel ruled most elements unconstitutional in 1959. Harry "Doc" Stephens was an American retired educator and politician from Kansas (July 14, 1942 - August 29, 2020). Stephens earned a bacherlor's and master's degree in counselor education from Emporia State University, where he was advised by Lloyd Stone. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, having joined in 1961 while an undergraduate; he served the Delta Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma at Emporia State University as the lead advisor for 50+ years. He earned his doctoral degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and then returned to Emporia State where he worked as an administrator. John Hall Stephens
John Hall Stephens (November 22, 1847 – November 18, 1924) was a U.S. Representative from Texas. Born in Shelby County, Texas, Stephens attended the common schools in Mansfield, Texas. He graduated from Mansfield College, and from the law department of Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, in 1872. After gaining admission to the bar in 1873, he practiced in Montague, Montague County, and Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas. He served as a member of the Texas State Senate from 1886 to 1888, and then resumed the practice of law in Vernon, Texas. Stephens was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth and to the nine succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1897 – March 3, 1917). He served as chair of the Committee on Indian Affairs ( Sixty-second through Sixty-fourth Congresses). He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1916. Robert Grier Stephens Jr. (August 14, 1913 – February 20, 2003) was a United States representative from Georgia. Stephens was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a great-great nephew of Alexander Stephens, a grandson of Clement Anselm Evans and a distant cousin of 19th-century U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert Cooper Grier. Robert Stephens graduated from Boys High School in 1931. Stanley Graham Stephens (September 16, 1929 – April 3, 2021) was a Canadian-American politician, journalist, and broadcaster who served as the 20th Governor of Montana from 1989 until 1993. He married Ann Hanson and the couple had two children. Career Stephens' 38-year career in broadcasting included his being drafted into service with the U.S. Armed Forces Broadcast Network during the Korean War. Stephens and Lyle Leeds, co-owners of KOJM Radio, in Havre, Montana, from 1953 to 1985, guided the station to a policy of fund-raisers and free air time to individuals to speak on issues.
